2019 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm warming up to Hunter...and he definitely got the better of Culver in their matchup. But give Culver another year to work on his game (at which point he'd still be younger than Hunter is now) and I think he closes the gap. And at that point, I like him more because he has a little bit of point forward potential that Hunter doesn't really have. It's pretty close though, I admit.

Updated my big board...I've tried my best to limit it to guys who're at least moderately likely to enter the draft; if anyone on here has said for sure that they're returning definitely let me know. As always, ordering within tiers is not completely arbitrary, but is fairly loose. I've bolded the players who I think would be particularly good fits on the Cavs.

I know you've been pushing Goga Bitadze, but what do you see us doing with Zizic if we draft Goga? Do we move him to avoid duplication, or do we decide to go with a more throwback offense, start Bitadze (long-term), and then make Zizic his backup?

I probably overrate basketball IQ, but I do like Hunter if Cavs slip back in that 5-7 range. I don't think he'll bust out, but he may never break out either.

The thing is: there is almost always 5-9 good NBA players in the draft (starter to All star) and they are chosen up and down the board. Some teams are historically good at finding them (Spurs, Jazz, Celtics to some degree come to mind) others need to be drafting #1 overall with a no-brainer pick (I'm not naming names, I'm just saying this Anthony Bennett jersey isn't going to wear itself).

Let's hope Altman and his team really have their shit together!
I don't think you can overrate BB IQ..it's one thing to overrate a players talent level but if he doesn't know how to play and doesn't have solid instincts and intelligence he'll bog down in crucial moments and be a liability .

I think Bitadze is to Zizic as Morant is to Sexton. They're not really good fits together. But just as Morant has some elements to his game that will probably make him better than Sexton (most importantly, his passing ability), Bitadze has some elements of his game that will probably make him better than Zizic (3-point shooting, shot blocking).

I decided to count Bitadze as a "good fit" since I don't think we're really all that invested in Zizic anyway...we could probably move him for a late first or use him as sweetener in a larger trade fairly easily, while trading Sexton would obviously be an enormous undertaking where it might be very difficult to find a good trade partner and get our money's worth. Of course, we could also simply keep Zizic as Bitadze's backup.

Yeah and the Point Forward would be really useful on this team

Playing either pair together is a problem.

But the difference is that while Sexton certainly is someone who should be a starter somewhere, Zizic's ceiling may be as a backup center. So while you couldn't plan to have Sexton backing up Morant, Zizic backing up Goga may be doable. I don't know if it is a direction in which we'd want to go, which is why I asked. I think it's interesting -- going towards more of a traditional center than a "small-ball" guy. If Goga has a shot, that might work. Or not.

Yeah...ideally, Culver could roughly split ballhandling duties with Sexton, and at the same time would shore things up defensively. Sexton/Cedi/Culver/Nance/Love would be a nice starting lineup for next year that gives us a good blend of offensive creation ability and size/length on defense.

As I've pointed out before, there aren't actually many small-ball centers starting these days. Looking around at playoff teams, who's trotting out a small-ball lineup this weekend?

Started off today's game with back-to-back 3's, showing he knows what to do against a giant, plodding opponent like Ojo. Ojo getting his revenge on the other end though, drawing two fouls to send Goga to the bench. This is gonna be a fun series.

Trust me, I'm trying as hard as anyone to find 10 guys to put in front of Culver. This draft isn't making it easy :chuckle:

The more highlights I watch of Culver the less I like him. He reminds me of Jordan Clarkson in his shot selection and how he takes ugly/off balance shots. I also can see why he had 4 bad games in a row, he just doesn't have go to moves. The way he plays will lead to streakiness.

I think he needs to be in a very structured system going forward to get the best out of him.

The difference between him and Clarkson is that he adds a lot of value on the other end of the court. If Clarkson was an inch or two taller and had some idea how to play defense, he might actually be a useful player in a system that doesn't allow him to be a chucker.

There’s a 30.5% chance that one of LAL, CHI, NY, BOS, MIA will get the number one pick.

There’s a 55.5% chance one of the pitiful losers will get the number one pick. ATL, NO, PHX, CHA, MEM, WASH, MINN.

There’s a 14% chance of our Cavs get it.

Im honestly at the point where I can feel okay as long as one of those 31% assholes don’t get it.
