2019 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
one mock had us taking Naz Reid with the 26 pick. I never heard of him, but it looks like he has a good jump shot and can hit the 3

He may be the worst defender in the draft unfortunately. I'd consider his shooting just OK, not phenomenal. Just lacks feel.

The flashes of ball handling are insane though. Definitely going to be a fun guy to watch for me if he lands somewhere with playing time. Would prefer the Cavs look elsewhere though. Non-defending fours that don't have an elite offensive skill I'd try to avoid personally

There's more value in freeing up the space prior to free agency, given how small the per year stretch amount on his deal is (a little over 1.2 million). Teams want to know they have the space or wiggle room under the tax and not be forced to shell out even more assets, if they are desperate to move off of someone later.

Teams are just less inclined to take on money post draft, if that makes sense. Most would rather just carry it over to the trade deadline. Also, someone would rather make a pick if they are eating a contract vs. trying to take a player or asset that is possibly less attractive.

What I mean by that is CLE taking on money for the 26th pick, which they get to make this year....is far more attractive than executing that trade after the draft and just taking whoever HOU decided to take with that selection.

Exactly. Teams on both sides of a trade will look at the draft and who is left will dictate if the values line up. Its less so about the position the player gets draft and more about how each team views who is left.

There is no guarantee that cap space will be available in July once free agency shakes out. Teams that might be seen as places to dumb contracts could see players still left on the market that they want to pursue. Someone like Tobias Harris could be waiting for a max contract offer and when it all shakes out the Hawks, Suns, or Kings could be the only ones with cap space left. Instead of taking on a bad contract and a future pick, they might see Tobias Harris as piece worth giving a max contract to and worth more than a future pick being offered.

Someone like the Nets who wants to pursue free agents can give up one asset at the draft to get rid of Allen Crabbe and possibly other players to open up cap. In July they might have to piece together available cap space from multiple teams and give up multiple assets to get that needed cap space.

I don't recall the ball handling, but watched a couple games with him. He reminds me of Cauly Stein.. A big, but not a great asset.. Admiral at 26 is a better choice, as he has range, can defend, and has a very high BBIQ.. Given the crazy combinations of possibilities even better choices may fall to 26..

all noise nothing more. But he has always been a diva. I think that is expected in the high lottery though unless it's a guy that wasn't supposed to be there from an early scouting stage like Ja,Culver or Sekou. I think all 3 Duke players are to some degree self inflated but most of it was due to others pumping up their ego's.
Only Zion really backed it up, Barrett at a lesser degree and Reddish not at all.
Barrett would have no hesitation to suggest he wouldn't want to be in Cleveland if that were the case given he is turning down workouts for a team picking at 2, however you have to wonder if it is like the Jabari Parker situation where he publicly said he didn't want Cleveland because he had strong info suggesting he would then be traded away just like Wiggins was. It could be RJ won't work out for Memphis due to their potential for wanting to improve the roster faster through trades and are also one of those orgs that if they drafted him to keep him would not automatically throw him in the fire making him ride the pine and earn minutes etc.

The best thing for Barrett if he ends up on the Cavs is the Knicks literally passing on him via trade or just selecting someone else. I think it will put a chip on his shoulder and possibly make him more invested in the Cavs organization.

He won't fall to 5 somebody will trade up for him if he falls to 4.

I just have no clue how the Lakers are operating. There could be a promise made to Garland and Klutch. There also could be another power move by the organization to put another rookie that fits into their young core. It seemed like part of the reasoning to why they brought Jason Kidd in.

Nothing would surprise me on what the Lakers do and that includes passing on Barrett and trades to get someone like Garland or Hunter.

Some highlights from Goga's playoff game yesterday. He struggled with his shot, but still contributed with 8 boards, 3 blocks, and a career-high 6 assists. Nice pass in semi-transition at the start of the video, transition dunk at 0:25, and an athletic alley-oop finish at 0:40.

Seeing a lot of:
Pick 5: Deandre Hunter
Pick 26: Ty Jerome

Don't hate it, 2 players that are high iq and fit the modern NBA with their shooting. Think we can do better at 5 though but I wouldn't be unhappy if that was the outcome.

The very definition of a low ceiling, high floor draft.

Two well coached, fundamentally sound players who are tough and can shoot, but not much beyond.

Yeah there is no chance the front office is that high on Hunter is there? C'mon this guy has a less high floor at the next level than people are expecting. Is he a lock down defender yes, does he shoot enough volume to take his % seriously hell no. He no handle which means he is a 4 not a 3 on offense so unless Love is gone, no chance Hunter is the pick barring a trade down situation.

I'm not down on Hunter as much as you. I am pretty confident he can step into an NBA rotation tomorrow and give 20-25 competent two-way minutes and there's definitely value in that.

I personally just want more upside with a top 5 pick. Drafting a 3&D player, even a high end one, is something you do outside the lottery. Not at 5.

Top 5 has something like a 35% chance of making an all star game (outside of 1 which is something like 70%)

my point is yes you look for all star potential, but quite often top 2-5 ends up nothing more than a 3 and D type or role player. NBA is very tough to draft. Hitting on 50% of your lottery picks is beating the odds by allot.

So do you guys have thoughts on Mfiondu Kabengele (sorry if missed convo).

Just based on highlights he seems like one of those typical undersized energy centers, who are always very noticable and pretty valuable.

He has a nice outside shot to boost though, and that somewhat opens up the door for Draymond discussion doesn't it?
