2019 NFL Draft: Day 1 Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
In the past I would agree with you. With the info and film you can get from ESPN, PFF, and NFL Network I don't agree. My oldest daughter(23 yrs) watches sports with me. My other 3 don't. She watched the draft with me last night and knows more about the players then I did 10 years ago. I think people are better educated about the prospects today then they have ever been.

Definitely could have a better educated public, if they choose to find it. People like your daughter go in depth on their own.

So many people don’t, relying on the same tired cliches and antiquated thinking.

Love the fact that actual, in depth sports knowledge is becoming popular.

But it’s not as mainstream as I’d like it to be, too much of it is trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator with some sort of hot take debate.

Amazing how so many people who didn't really post much about the 2019 NFL draft much the past six months suddenly have some strong opinions and undoubtedly flawless research.

Let's all take a step away from the pistols, gentlemen. Posts have taken a personal bend all of a sudden and it isn't warranted at all. Dorsey knows what he is doing and at the end of the day, that is all that matters.

I don't agree with that statement. I could type a 3 paragraph reply but its just my stupid opinion.

All research is flawed even the pros.

But as for Peppers I can see a pro bowl level still but more challenging in Giant land.

But I was a huge fan of Obi in that draft and he has already busted, plus Budda Baker was drafted after Jabril and made the pro bowl as a strong safety and i didn't see that coming.

I found a deep back success rate chart in an article (broke all positions down), success is defined as regular starter. Its an article written about Dorsey when he was in KC, but the numbers are in general.

So 1st round db 64%, 2nd 46%. 3rd 24%, 4th 11%, 5th 17%, 6yh 8% and 7th 11%

Its interesting to note how huge the drop is after the 4rd round and it seems about the same chance after that.

My hot take? we need to take a corner or safety in the 2nd or 3rd, but after that we can wait. Also, the biggest number was OL had a 83% success rate in the 1st round, that is pretty amazing.

I kid. Peppers is solid. I think Dorsey including him had more to do with the value of a SS. He's above average at a below average position strategically. So you make the trade.

Daniel Jones just fucking stinks, man.

Showed no consistent accuracy. Everything good people say about him is based on intangibles and who his coach was.
I heard Jones has a great work ethic and is a real coaches son.

Worse than Daniel Jones at 6? I guess you could make the argument that while Ferrell is almost assuredly going to be a far better player, there were still a lot of EDGE Rushers available with more upside and the the QB class apart from Kyler isn't great so whichever one you pick at 6 is probably not going to be that good.

I finally sat down and watched film of Jones, and he is a bit of a boring, unflashy QB, but will be a solid NFL QB. He doesn't have an amazing arm or anything like that, but he played on a bad team and carried that team to a bowl win. I think he will actually have a good career in the NFL. If I would rate him, he is one of those guys, his floor is like 79-80 out of college, but his ceiling may only be an 85. High IQ and awareness with decent wheels and better accuracy than his numbers showed.

People sometimes really underrate how much football IQ and awareness means in the NFL. I mean heck, Brady was rated really poor and that is what got him to the top. I am not saying he is Brady, but cause he has decent arm talent, knows what he can and cannot do while always being aware of what is going on, he will not turn the ball over much and he will keep the chains moving. Like his ability to manage games, lets see if he has enough arm talent for the NFL to match with his wits and knowledge of the game.

I think Jones will succeed, but not necessarily in NY.

Might be one of those guys who blossom after they switch teams in their 4th or 5th year.
