2019 NFL offseason thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sad story. Kid's parents pushed him away from MSU because they didn't think he'd get the support he needed (wanted either ttun or tOSU, iirc). Ended up choosing Sparty anyway. Obviously all the talent in the world, but either has some sort of maturity problem, head issue, or combo of the two.

The suspension is a token gesture. McDowell is a FA who has never actually played an NFL game i think. Hes never playing in the NFL.

So the 18 game schedule has been talked about for a while now. Owners justification has always been, "Well the fans want more football". Obviously, there is something they need to give back to the players union.

This proposal says players can only play 16 games a season, meaning no increased workload.

Problem is...WE DON'T WANT MORE FOOTBALL IF IT MEANS THE BEST PLAYERS WON'T PLAY THOSE GAMES, YOU FUCKING MORONS!

I’d be ecstatic to watch great quarterbacks, such as Drew Stanton and Christian Ponder, play multiple games.

:banghead:

You would watch, though. Even then. Just like you tune into preseason games.

I find this proposal to be pretty intriguing, actually. The coach has to pick what games he rests his best QB; it also may help coaches decide to give a banged up guy a much needed rest since he knows he has to rest them for 2 games mandatory anyway. It gives chances to guys who may be buried on a depth chart.

I think the smart coaches and orgs would take full advantage of this and both use this to develop the backend of their roster while managing wear/tear. As long as the NFL is t using this in lieu of actual earnings boost for the players i am for it.

I’d watch it.

And if Baker missed 2 games because he was hurt, I’d watch too. But in that case I’d say, “Well that’s a tough break” rather than “The owners are extorting money for bad football”

Going from 16 games to 18 games is a 12.5% increase. Increasing the rosters the same percentage would increase the total roster size to 59/60. I think if we add 2 games, rosters should be increased by 4-6 players.

And if adding that much salary costs than the extra revenue 2 extra games adds, they shouldn’t expand the season IMO.

Listened to Locked on Browns today and they came up with more reasons why this dumb

- gambling and fantasy players will be pissed when all of a sudden their player sits.

- you need 2 kickers, 2 punters and 2 long snappers. And are you just gonna cut you kicker then try and pick him back up?

- teams are going to rest their best players on short weeks. So Thursday night football will get shit ratings and thanksgiving games will be boring.

Watch the Chiefs give him a contract extension
