2019 NFL offseason thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
OBJ doesnt hit me this same way. Not sure about you guys, but he just strikes me as more grounded.

On paper, these guys have a similar trajectory, all the way down to the one handed catches and colorful hair. All we really have is stories, social media and stats to work with, so I could absolutely be completely wrong here.

They just put off different vibes and strike me as having very different intentions and relationships with other people.

The OBJ in NY fiasco seems very media generated. The AB situation seems very AB generated.

I like what I see of OBJ. Again...could be wrong, but he just seems like a good dude who got surrounded by bullshit in the media.

I was thinking 100% the same thing this weekend. The fight with Norman is about all they really had on OBJ. He had outbursts on sidelines, but they only person that got hurt was the field goal net and tis retaliation on OBJ. His outbursts where driven by not making plays, he is highly competitive. And while OBJ didn't come to any voluntary practices, when he is required to be there, he is there. He works hard, stays after, works with young receivers and I have over heard him on other peoples miked up as generally positive and really at this point a mentor.

AB is just crazy at this point. He is fighting the system designed to actually help him prevent concussions. He really comes off as off his rocker.

The NY media is horrible and just exploited OBJ when that short video came out about him with a hot naked chick and the pizza. I know, you shouldn't eat pizza if you are trying to stay in shape, lol.

Just wear the GD league approved helmet. You’re making 14+ million a year. Fucking Lunatic

The league literally paid a ton of money to test all the helmets for private testing against concussions and approved the best 10 helmets. Its not like they are targeting AB to be mean, they really are finally trying to reduce concussions.

Do you know who is enjoying all this?

Carr.

With all the attention on AB, fewer people are paying attention to how much he sucks.

Jimmy G not looking great today.

His perforce in the games prior to his injury last season was also middling.

I know it is a small sample size, but is it possible that he's been overrated?

He was the beau-sabreur for a few years as a sought-after impending FA, and as trade bait for any franchise without a QB. Did people just build him up in their heads after a few good starts on a great Patriot team?

I think that knee injury possibly threw him for a loop. He might be the kind of guy who needs a full year to get back. He also wasn't THAT good when he did get traded to the 49ers. Jimmy was definitely better than the trash they had at the time, but he was exceptionally mediocre.

I think he was overrated and is just not fully recovered. He also has pretty much nothing around him that is positive, except maybe his running back situation? People have been saying that 49ers game is going to be tough...I think they are pretty awful and the Browns should be able to out talent them fairly easily.

Jimmy G did well on a small sample size right before he was a UFA, and he cashed in. He has good tools, but it's crazy to think CJ Beathard has started exactly the same number of games and Nick Mullens only has two less starts. Jimmy has an alarming lack of experience compared to his age and salary.

I think we have learned that John Lynch was woefully under-prepared to be an NFL GM right away after time in the broadcast booth.

He also has Kittle!

Dude was the shit. Putting up WR1 numbers. Without him I would finished towards the bottom of the RCF FF League.

I feel like it was pretty much established what the differences were with regards to AB and OBJ and how comparison between the two, their situations, their respective reputation and percieved mindset was surface level at best.

OBJ isn't a saint. The Lil' Wayne interview wasn't a great move, even if every thing he said in the interview was correct. Getting caught on tape on tape in Paris is dumb shit, even if it's more than likely 70% of the league get up to the same kinds of high jinx. Getting in a squabble with Norman was a misstep and should be viewed as such.

But even then, in spite of all that, nobody in the Giants lockerroom ever accused OBJ of being A) a bad teammate, B) lazy, or C) a detriment to the team. Was he a distraction? Fuck yeah, he was a distraction, but in Odell's mind I'm sure that he was incredulous to the fact that the team he was playing on was a complete mess on the field, and him being visibly frustrated about it was the thing that caught headlines instead of the team being a mess. He has always been very upfront about wanting to win and being willing to do whatever it took to achieve that, so when he's identifying all the things holding back the team and seeing management actively refraining from rectifying those issues, he lashes out. It's not productive and it's obviously fueled by his emotions, but it's a by-product of him caring.

With AB it was obvious from the beginning that his episodes directly impacted the play on the field, including his own performance. The "hope" was that getting away from Big Ben would alleviate the issues pertaining to his antics. Ben was obviously a shit teammate, the way he repeatedly threw his teammates under the bus was a trash look, so while most agreed that AB's handling of it was poor it was clear that the blame wasn't his exclusively. The thing is, though, a good chunk of the blame still befalls him and while the culture in the Steelers locker room wasn't cultivated by AB, he didn't do anything to change it. He didn't just shun Ben or management, he lashed out against the entire lockerroom and burned every single bridge behind him.

That's ultimately the difference between them: OBJ caused distractions stemming from dissatisfaction with the teams performance. It was misguided and reckless but ultimately came from a "good place", to a certain extent.

AB was rightfully sick of Bens shit and when the FO wasn't acting on it, he decided to actively try and hurt the team and leave them with no choice but to trade him.

Hand to god, totally forgot about Kittle.

He's their only weapon. Much like those Browns teams that only had Handyman Barnman and/or Jordan Cameron, a good TE helps but is more of a luxury that cannot carry a team.

49ers are going to be in trouble this year. Their defense is good but not great. Their offense could be REAL rough.

Someone needs two check the lovely Josh McCown for eating stem cells or something.

The guy can still throw a ball.
