Sounds like you're describing Batum. How's that for a comp?

Avdija is a much better shot blocker. His timing is really good and he has length.

He is stronger than Batum and longer.

I dunno about a comparison. I don't have a direct comparison really. He is a risky prospect.

AK47 before he learned how to shoot from 3 point land?

Don't get me wrong. While AVdijas defense is nice considering the fact that he was not really considered a defensive prospect and does not look overly athletic, he is not on the same level defensively as AK47. He does really well i nterms of team D, playing the passing lanes and blocking shots that you wouldn't expect.

But he is not on the level as AK47 as a shot blocker at all. Just not as athletic.

AK would be strictly a PF today imo. I see Avdija as a SF/PF. He is in the mold of a Porter Jr physically. Smaller but functionally similar in a sense. Avdija is more fluid though.

Dunno, he is tough to evaluate because I don't know how his role is going to look in the NBA. I wouldn't go for him anyways.

Glad to see one other person beside me pegging the team to win over 38. :) I know its only 4 games into season I wouldn't be surprised to come out of the season near .500.

That would kind of suck in the sense we would lose our draft pick. But it would also likely mean the kids grow a lot during the season. I still think they max out between 25 and 30 wins.

If you lose pick 11 it hurts but not that bad. The #11 isn't changing the outcome of the team.

With health this team cracks 30 pretty easily I think. Have to see more road games though. Definitely look better at home like young teams do

If there is one GM that you could convince that we will tank if we don't have our pick and not roll the dice on our odds, it's Griff. He always seem willing to push back with the most realistic situation for possible events.

I'm just hoping the Pelican start playing better and we can find a deal to get our pick back. I'm just not sure what player or contract will fit the value for both us and the pelicans at the moment.

Deni AVdija is a nice defender. I'm confident it will translate.

Deni is not a good 3pt shooter at all. On and off the ball.

He excels at this level as a playmaker but does not get a chance to do so. Will it happen in the NBA? for him to succeed he will need to become a good NBA 3pt shooter. His shot is pretty unreliable.

His frame is narrow. Will have hard time adding mass.
Sounds like omri Asspi

I think you just described Derrick Williams

When do we play the warriors? We’re gonna cream all our bodily fluids over them, absolute dumpster fire.

I'm wondering why there's no team thread for this season, just threads for the individual players. I'd start one but I'm the newbie here so I'll hold off. In the meantime I'll post my general comments on the team in this thread.

There was some good stuff in cleveland.com's game analysis of the loss to Boston. In the first half the Cavs had 7 assists on 19 made baskets. Not much ball movement. In the second half it was 15 assists on 21 buckets - a gigantic improvement. As a result they scored a whopping 61 points in the second half against 52 in the first. They outscored the Celtics by 3 in the second half.

What impressed me is that coming into this game the Celtics ranked 5th in scoring defense at 103.0 ppg. They are a top-five defense and the Cavs put up 113 against them and that's without really moving the ball much in the first half. Imagine what they'll be able to do once they learn to move the ball more and Garland gets acclimated to the pro game, plus getting Windler and Henson back.

“There’s just got to be…is it willingness, I can’t measure that. But I think the word would be an awareness that somebody is more open than I am, and then if I just pass it to them maybe there is a close out and we can drive or there is another guy open, as we say, the hockey assist,” Beilein said. “We’re trying to get an understanding of that, but we really don’t understand it the way we will."

"[The Celtics] really, really share the ball, it’s infectious, that ball has energy,” [Kevin] Love said. “They want to make the play for the next guy, they play for each other, they celebrate each other. Eventually we’re going to get there. We like playing together, we want to grow. That’s why we’ve kept ourselves in games, we’ve been right there in the fourth quarter, now with a young team you have to learn how to win."

And this from Brad Stevens...

“They’re good. I wouldn't be able to gauge a lot of other teams because we didn't play them in the preseason but I can't imagine a more improved team in a month. Excellent coaching. Excellent playing. All the good stuff. They're playing hard. They're playing together. Making it really hard to guard. They do downhill at your chest. It makes it tough. Hats off to Cleveland."

A lot of good stuff coming out of this game. Even losing isn't bad because we need that top 10 draft pick.

They are playing better than almost all of our expectations so far. I'm really enjoying watching this team play.

And I want them to win!

I know we should be rooting for losses, especially top-10 protected with the pick we owe. But the basketball is sound that I don't want them to devolve into the type of play that gets them 22 wins - hell, even 27 wins. This is from a guy who usually is leader of the tank. It just seems like losing would be counterproductive.

If the Cavs play really well now, it's a statement about the talent they already have. If they get 36+ wins, it shows that Sexton is better than we anticipated. It means Garland has poise beyond his years. If they get 19 wins it would mean the young guys are learning bad habbits. It would mean they are further away from being the stars we hope they'll become.

I still don't know how we get the type of superstar to make us contenders again without getting a top 3 draft pick - and I'm afraid of the treadmill of mediocrity, long term. But I can't root for this group to lose. Anyone else feel that way?

So far, I think we will do better having Beilein in charge raising the value of every guy on our team than we will get from this pick this year.

I am pretty confident Sexton and Garland are going to hit their ceilings or close to it. Same with the other young guys. We are going to be winning more trades than before because our guys are going to have trade value. Even if we don't draft a superstar, I think we will get the chance to trade for one.

I made this argument in another thread, but figured I'd throw my unwanted opinion here too.

I definitely disagree with this - losing a lottery pick in any draft is pretty killer, and 11th overall picks have been pretty good recently.

2018: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander - looks like a future all-star already (putting up 20/5/3 w/ 17.8 PER & 55.2 TS%)
2017: Malik Monk - steadily improving, but still not great (still only 21 years old)
2016: Domantas Sabonis - 22.3 PER, 1.3 WS already this season, averaging 20/13 on good efficiency
2015: Myles Turner - career 17.4 PER guy, already has 22.6 career WS, led the league in BPG last season (2.7)
2014: Doug McDermott - unspectacular, but still a rotation guy that shoots 40%+ from deep
2013: Michael Carter-Williams - won the ROY and then was washed at 25, weird dude
2012: Meyers Leonard - unspectacular again, but he's shooting 46.8% from three the last three season (64.7 this year)
2011: Klay Thompson - future Hall of Famer

The only guy not making some kind of NBA impact is MCW, and that dude is just kind of weird with how his career has gone. When you're rebuilding, you always take a chance on getting a young (cheap) rotation player to grow with the rest of your guys. I'd take the vast majority of these guys on this team right now.
