2019 Series #25 | Tigers @ Indians | June 21-23

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's too bad we only get to have these guys in our organization for 10-12 years
Lol, yeah. Then the prime of their career (27-whatever) comes along playing for the Yankees. Or, there's always the buisness side of trading the big names before their contract is up. (CC is a HoF, most likely wearing a Yankee cap)

Do I wish the financial landscape of baseball was more equal, like the NFL? Of course.

Do I denigrate ownership or the organization because of this? Absolutely not.

If you're upset that, after only making one playoff appearance over the span of 6 years, and then being outside of the playoffs looking in for the current season, we traded away a starting pitcher we couldn't possibly hope to re-sign, then boy do I have good news for you. We've solved that problem by becoming the best organization in baseball with regards to a steady stream of really good starting pitchers coming up from every level of the organization!

CC was a massive exception because he was MLB ready by age 20.

If this was the NFL, the Indians would have already lost Lindor, guys like Santana and Brantley would have been long gone, and the Indians probably would have lost 2 of their pitchers by now too, due to salary cap restraints.

No, no, no... the joke was we are a great farm club for the bigger fish.

It's cool following kids playing A ball. Hell it was cool following Frazier, until we traded him, the unfortunate side of the game.

Dude we haven't won a WS since '48, i don't expect one, i don't think I'll ever see one. I'm not upset about shit anymore regarding baseball. Small market teams are set up to fail (1948). We bust our ass scouting these kids though.

So... in your hypothetical, rather than just having a hard cap, the MLB is adopting NFL contracts as well? Like, in your scenario, I can only imagine you're saying these things because teams only have 4 years of control instead of 6?

I'd still contend that, like a franchise QB in football, a franchise player like Lindor would be retained by the organization.

That's really the exception rather than the rule. Very rare that guys hit the majors at 20 or 21. Most of the time the first big contract is just paying guys in their 30's.

For example, Bieber hauled ass to the majors, and the earliest he can be a free agent is 2025, the year he turns 30.

Go on....

Huge, huge emphasis on Latin America being made by them right now.

Playing field evened out with the signing rules a few years ago, but the Indians just took it one step further by opening the nicest facility in the Dominican Republic. It will help get some of the bigger named guys in their doors at a younger age moving forward.

It's a play that will show itself in maybe 2 or 3 years, but don't be surprised when they start landing top 5-10 International prospects in the near future, which is something they've never really done.

Could it be the homer in me, sure. But I think we are entering maybe the most fruitful stretch of minor league talent acquisition that the Indians have ever seen.
