2019 Series #28 | Indians @ Royals | July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You just said "And the only way to defend the bunting during the regular season is if you want your players practiced and ready to make that bunt in the playoffs if you're playing for exactly one run."

Is that not your stance on bunting? If not, I'm all ears.

Why is bunting only acceptable in the playoffs? That makes no sense to me.

But even if bunting is only acceptable in the playoffs, as you said, aren't the Indians basically playing playoff games right now? So what's your issue with Tito's decisions then?

See my post on page 2 of this thread. That's a decent start to my thoughts on bunting.

I'm not even a huge fan of bunting. I do think there's a time and a place for it and I can easily justify Tito's reasons for it this series. You and a few others seem to be against bunting at all costs.... which I don't agree with.

I said I was against "The bunting," which refers to the last few situations that have been preposterous. I'll admit it probably could've been worded better.

There are times when bunting is the right move. I'm not talking about those situations.

First inning, 0-0, Lindor gets on first, calling Mercado to sac bunt.

7th inning, up 2-0, runners on first and second no outs, calling for Naquin to sac bunt.

If it were a situation where one run drastically changes your win percentage, I'm all for it. But these are not those types of situations.

Therefore, I'm saying the only way these calls are even defensible is if you say you're having players execute the bunts now in sub-optimal situations so that they can do it if it's ever required later on down the road. But if anyone else can come up with a defense for these calls, I'm all ears.

I’m pro bunting in a walk-off situation. Otherwise, swing away.

I am mostly anti bunting in almost every situation because why play for one run when you should be trying to score as many as you possibly can.

But in a situation where one run literally ends the game... so be it.
