2019 Series #45 | Indians vs. White Sox | September 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
@Derek

I am just trying to figure out who we would move from the 40 man roster to add Karinchak since Salazar will likely be switched to the 60 day DL to readd Jefry. Stephens and Edwards have been outrighted already (For Hoyt/Flaherty and Zimmer).

I feel once the AAA playoffs get done, Smith, Zimmer, Allen, Velazquez and Bradley will be added to the big league club. Jefry will be back sometime before or after this time frame as well. The only other two left would be Hentges and Mejia on the 40 man roster. Mejia is hurt, but putting him on the 60 man would effect his MLB time a bit, but I would move him if that meant being able to had more talent to eligible playoff talent. Also we haven't ruled out getting Kluber back sometime, so I am not sure when and in what capacity.
We have plenty of guys we could DFA in a heartbeat if they truly wanted Karinchak up here

I have a hunch, they would have added Karinchak and not Hoyt if they wanted him up this season. With the fact they went with Flaherty and Hoyt to finish out the roster, they are going with the veterans over the youngsters right now and the only reason why Chang got added was cause of the injury to Ramirez (Though in return, it gave Clement down there a chance to finish at AAA). Hoyt though was pretty good over the last month in the minors and I feel they like Maton future wise and Smith being the lefty reliever, they won't cut either guy. I personally I want Karinchak (Even Nelson) up but I don't think either guy will be in the cards this season and with the fact they don't need to be protected, they won't be added this off season to the 40 man roster. (That will be Moss, Johnson, etc.)

Eloy Jimenez Lineout to Oscar Mercado

Exit Velocity: 110.8 mph (3rd highest in game)
Hit Probability: 74%

Reyes also had a lineout in the 3rd on a ball hit harder and with a higher hit probability
Eloy had a lineout in the 3rd on a ball with a 81% hit probability. Unlucky night for him

Now if the Dolans pay Frankie....which they should....then the math changes. But I doubt they can afford him. They don't exactly have a history of paying their guys if they didn't lock them up on early deals.

This is a world class hedge.

I think you covered all the bases pretty well here. So bold, so firm in the convictions of nearly all outcomes.

I know we have this discussion every few weeks like clockwork (there should probably be a dedicated thread just for Lindor’s future free agency at this point), but I can’t begrudge the Dolans for not being able to keep Lindor.

I’m betting the amount he signs for will end up being up to $100 million more than the maximum we’d be able to pay him. Like not even in the same ballpark. It won’t be a case of the Dolans haggling/nickel and diming over a few million so the player walks.

I agree. But I'd still pay him the 300 for 10 or whatever it will be. But maybe that is an emotional way of thinking and not Sabermetric.

It has nothing to do with sabermetrics

Thats very sabermetric of you.

Well I guess moneyball then. I'm using them interchangeably but do recognize the difference. Both are evaluations but one is not price sensitive while the other is. They are often combined though.

Not really moneyball either. Moneyball is all about finding undervalued players and staying away from overvalued players.

The case of Lindor comes down to the Indians devoting 30-40% of their payroll to a single player over the course of 10 seasons. Any sort of injury to Lindor or decline could really doom the team; it's a lot of risk.

10 yrs $300m probably isn't going to get it done either. Machado already set the benchmark, I'm sure Lindor and his representation will want to beat it.

Wonder if Plesac pitching a ton of high leverage innings like this for the first time in his life is wearing him down. Just hasn't looked that sharp for a few weeks now.

Disagree. It is moneyball. The Indians invented it and Billy Beane copied it.

This lineup right now has been pretty abysmal. The Jose injury was a killer..

We are making guys like Ceese and Lopez look like Justin Verlander. Both guys were getting bombed in their previous starts. Sucks seeing things transpire like this. Sad to say, but right now i actually thing the Sox lineup looks better than ours.
