2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
19 games to go, Cavs sitting at #5 for lottery, 3 games out of #10 spot, last for play-in.

Cavs could realistically catch all of Wizards, Raptor and Bulls. 6 losses behind Pacers at #9 in
conference which seems out of reach even with rose colored glass vantage point.

Should be very interesting down the stretch.

I just want to see the young guys keep developing and let the chips
fall where they may. Get the maximum clarity as possible in
identifying the keepers vs the discards.

Lottery odds and position very much TBD.

I think making a push to be the 'play-in' game (which they'd most likely lose) only to get a worse drafting position in a loaded draft year would be an enormous mistake.

The last few drafts have had very few "franchise cornerstones," this draft looks like a handful of players could be just that.

I want to see our young guys compete, sure, but there's absolutely no reason we shouldn't re-start the tank shortly and make sure we finish within the top 5 worst records to ensure a (most-likely) higher pick in this draft.

Every draft is important.... but I could definitely argue this is the most important draft of our rebuild thus far.

I’m throwing the bullshit flag on this idea that the Cavaliers should “tank”.

What actions should the team take, specifically, to try to lose games ?

- Tell players to try to lose not win?
- Reduce or eliminate minutes of key players?
- Deliberately assemble bad rotations?
- Declare healthy players injured?

It‘s not enough to just say “Tank Tank Tank Tank Tank Tank” which is what most of these tank posts amount to.

Personally I’m not interested in building a losing culture, but for those wedded to the idea that we have to lose for draft position the least that should be done is propose specific actions the team should take if that’s the goal.

The team isn't going to tank. The Front office has to do that. I don't think they will. It would require sitting Love and Delly who just got back.

If you want to tank then you do the number 2 and 4 things on your list! Players are not going to intentionally lose. They are too competitive for that! And players love their minutes! But tanking doesn’t really give you an edge to a top spot. The last two years where we finished was supposed to put us in the top three and we ended up no better than 5th.

We're going to lose plenty of games regardless of who we put on the floor. I'm not worried at all about being "too good" after some of the performances I've seen this year.

I was going to say the same thing.

I was going to say the same thing.
And this is the exact reason that I just enjoy the games/stretches of games where we do play well.

We're worried about accidentally catching Chicago or Washington, but I don't see that as likely at all. Those teams are both legitimately trying to make the play-in tournament. They have much better veteran talent to lean on as well.

It's really not hard to figure out.

Shut down Love and Delly. Probably shut down Prince also. Heck even Nance. What's the point in playing them this time of year anyway? They're not going to be apart of our young core the next 3-4 years. We can't trade them right now so it's not like we have reasons to showcase them. (Nance might be apart of that core going forward.... I don't think the other 3 will).

Play the young ones only. More minutes for guys like Hartenstein, Wade, Stevens, Thomas, Windler and the like...

Guys that ARE apart of our young core the next few years (Allen, Garland, Sexton etc)... keep playing them but if they have any minor injuries/pulls/strains etc then sit them for an additional week or two to be overly cautious.

We have absolutely nothing to play for going forward. Let the young guys get minutes and sit the vets.

Look at OKC for example... A brilliantly ran franchise especially when it comes to rebuild mode. They flat out told Horford he's done for the year as they look at younger players. They're going to take their sweet time with SGA's injury and it wouldn't surprise me to see him out the rest of the year. Mike Muscala is another veteran who's 'out indefinitely' with an ankle sprain.

The younger players have done much better with Love and Delly on the floor - Okoro in particular.

I for one am happy that the Cavaliers are prioritizing the development of key young players by having passing vets to help them on the floor. Love isn’t going anywhere and he helps us space the floor. Delly brings order to the offense.

I guess i don't understand tanking in a deep draft year. Shouldn't better players be available further down the draft board?

Shouldn't you theoretically be tanking harder for a weak incoming draft class and not as much for a strong one?

Put me in the camp of "trying to win", vs "trying to tank".

I WANT to watch the Cavs, I WANT to watch the youngsters grow and develop, I WANT to watch victories.

If they are tanking, I'm NOT watching. Why would I.
Dan Gilbert is in the entertainment business. He wants to put a good product on the floor, not crap.

Don't know if this was reported yet but,,,,
Dan Gilbert bought out the remaining minority ownership shares of Gordon Gund.
Don't know if that means anything, except it makes the club easier to sell.
Maybe ARod doesn't want to get involved in any Minnesota mess.

How does it make the club easier to sell?
