2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Cavs don't need to sign any free agents this off season. With or without any free agents the Cavs aren't going anywhere and will be stuck in the lottery again. So why give out another long term contract and use salary cap space when there are still so many questions about the current roster. Can Allen and Mobley play together? Will Sexton be here long term? Will Okoro develop? The Cavs just need to play out this year, let some of these questions be answered, and add another lottery pick. I think the 2022 off season is when they can start making final determinations about the roster and look to make a push for the playoffs.

Not sure why you came to that conclusion. The Cavs should be looking to upgrade the SF spot .If they can find a good one, even via trade , they need to do it,

While I wouldn't want them to go crazy, there's no reason they can't sign a 3 year contract with a free agent. We won't have cap room until Love is gone anyway.

Have a question and don’t slaughter me on this, if we’re looking for a reclamation at SF, what’s the thought of Kevin Knox still only 21, turns 22 next month….I like his upside better than Windler……….

There are several scenarios in which we can have significant cap space in the 2022 or 2023 offseason.
Giving a 3 year, full MLE the offseason reduces those possibilities by 10+M in either season

I think a 1 year deal or 1 year plus team option deal is the more likely scenario.

I would pass on Knox if we take on a reclamation project I would prefer they be under contract for longer then 1 season. And I also don't see him turning it around. If we want Knox wait a year and offer him the the league minimum.

Forbes provides shooting, which is desperately needed so I would understand it.

However, someone can tell Koby you are allowed to acquire players who are over 6'2 and also players who are under 7ft.

I'm not sure how many wings that can knock down 3 pointers are really available for the MLE. I don't mind the Rubio trade but Prince's contract allowed for some sign and trade opportunities that might have allowed us to get the wing we might wanted.

Yeah I agree with the lack of wings. Honestly this FA class is actually pretty terrible across the board at all positions and I don't expect much at all to happen on that end of things for the Cavs.

Prince was overpaid relative to his contract. That means we'd have had to add picks or take back an even worse contract to net positive value. The kind of guys not just you but everyone else here and every team in the NBA wants -- two-way wings who can knock down shots -- just aren't available for as crappy an asset as Prince's contract. We only got Rubio -- who is a better player than Prince -- was because he was making even more money than Prince, and we sweetened the pot with cash and a second-rounder. Further, whomever we would get at a two way wing would have to be good enough to justify taking minutes from Okoro, Nance, and Windler at the 3, and two of those guys need as many developmental minutes as they can.

There's no need to rush this. Rubio's contract is larger than was Prince's, and if you're talking sign and trade, that opens up more possibilities because it is an expiring. And though I think you have decided that Okoro isn't an SF, I don't thing the Cavs have concluded that yet. They want to give him those minutes this year to see how that goes. If it goes well, then we've got our two-way 3. If it doesn't look like it will work, then we'll obviously be moving Okoro to SG, and likely moving Sexton. And in that case, we'll then have Rubio's large expiring, Sexton, and whatever additional assets we want to toss into that bag to get a better two-way wing than we could have gotten with just the crap we gave up for Rubio.

We had to get a solid veteran PG. That's an even bigger need for this season than is an SF because we only had 1 1/2 PG's on the roster, and you simply can't go into a season that way. It's how we ended up last season, and that was a disaster.

Knox has seemingly regressed in the NBA, for whatever reason. He showed promise his rookie year, but hasn’t done much since then. That said, I’d trade Windler for him, as Dylan is about 3 years older than Knox.
