2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Looks the big losers of the NBA free agency is Andre Drummond and Dennis Schroder. Schroder was offered 4 years and 84 million by the Lakers last season and he turned it down to test FA. I believe there was contract talk w the CAVs before the Allen trade anyone remember if it any amount got leaked?? He signed with 76ers for vet minimum.

Anyways I'm going to keep beating this drum alone over here: if you replace Sexton with Hart here is how the height of the Cavaliers' 8 man rotation would compare to that of the Bucks (a big team) and the Suns (an average team) as they appeared in the NBA finals.

Bucks: 7.0, 6.11, 6.10, 6.7, 6.5, 6.5, 6.3, 6.2
Cavs: 7.0, 6.11, 6.8, 6.7, 6.5, 6.5, 6.3, 6.1
Suns: 6.11, 6.8, 6.7, 6.6, 6.6, 6.5, 6.1, 6.0

Who is going to exploit the Cavs here? Bobby Portis on Kevin Love?
Great we will have a bunch of tall guys none of whom can shoot or score. Replacing Sexton with Hart makes an already bad offense become pathetic. While everyone else in the league wants shooting and offense, you want a tall team that outside of Garland can't score beyond the paint. It's a great way to get a good spot in the next lottery.

Maybe. That's not the point I'm making but I'll respond anyways.

The offensive potential of this team is dependent on the guys we have committed to or are likely to commit salary towards: Allen, Mobley, Garland, maybe Okoro. I like Sexton but I think it's fair to assume he's not in the picture long term unless there's catastrophic regression or injury to Garland. If those core guys can't score together then you have a problem that's not going to be solved by a free agent wing in Cleveland this year. This season is about progression for those guys and establishing a proof of concept for our rebuild. I don't think they're going to shoot the lights out this year, but we're going to give them a chance to learn to play the game together either way.

Hart is an excellent player in that context that is going to make scoring a lot easier for those guys by earning possessions and second chances with rebounding and hustle plays, and creating offense off of defense and on the fast break. Offense is more than shooting percentages. He'd also be a great tone setter and locker room guy that could balance Mobley and Garland's ice with some productive fire. And while every team would love to have another 3&D wing type, signing Hart now doesn't preclude us from getting that role player later when we're closer to contending. In the meantime, Hart does a lot to make the wheels turn for our guys and establish a culture, more than I think a spot up guy would for us right now.

i'd be worried about garland. if he does not make a leap this up-coming season, he's going to be just an ok NBA player. and with the way the cavs are progressing this off season (trading for PGs), i wonder if it's garland that is on the block, not sexton.

Lol, his value is no better than Sexton. Nobody wants team smurf. They both should be on the block. The team is being built around the towers.

I'm guessing it's Utah White (White Jerseys) and Utah Blue (Blue Jerseys) and most likely someone in their marketing department.
I understand; I was pointing out the irony of the name.

Drummond was clearly going to lose. Free agency just made it obvious. Embiid has to be overjoyed that Drummond is on the team. That +/- with Embiid on / off court is going to be brutal.

Maybe him getting the league minimum will make Drummond realize how to properly play the game. That is if he wants to get paid again. Otherwise he will keep getting league minimum deals if he doesn't wise up.

Drummond will never be more than a MLE paid player again. I love his inside presence but the NBA is a different beast now and his skill set (although not bad) isn’t worth than that!

Yeah. Last time I checked MLE > League Minimum. If he plays within the role he's assigned a team that needs a center will give him the MLE. Which is much better then what he's getting now.

Honestly, Drummond is an idiot. He blew multiple good opportunities last year. He can't get out of his own way, and his inability to play within himself cost him prob 100M dollars. I knew I should have been worried when he described himself as a "bright" player with nobody asking. If someone asks you what you are that can sometimes be reliable, but anyone who unprompted tells you something specific like that, you have to be suspicious.
