2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Does anyone know of a player that accepted a buyout of a big deal and ever got another (even relatively) big contract? MLE level?

Honestly, Drummond is an idiot. He blew multiple good opportunities last year. He can't get out of his own way, and his inability to play within himself cost him prob 100M dollars. I knew I should have been worried when he described himself as a "bright" player with nobody asking. If someone asks you what you are that can sometimes be reliable, but anyone who unprompted tells you something specific like that, you have to be suspicious.
His fg% went under 50 last season - this from a guy who doesn’t take outside shots. High usage and low efficiency. The NBA has chuckers but he was a chucker from inside five feet. Oh but it was the Cavaliers fault - that’s what the Lakers thought so they grabbed this numb chucker and started him. He flopped. Now that alleged genius Morey has brought him to Philly to backup Embiid. I don‘t care if he’s only being paid the minimum - he’s still overpaid because he stinks.

Again he is definitely not a prime time player anymore but the man has led the league in rebounding three of the past four years! That does not equate to STINK! Give the man his due!

getting rebounds is ok... as long as it doesn't come from your own chucking, or proceed to chucking a missed shot again.

He was worse than ever. Honestly, when he was younger and played like a garbage man he was way more effective

Ok to play like a garbageman. TT swept up garbage for years. The problem is Drummond played like garbage last year and that’s not ok.

If I was an NBA owner it would be a violation of minimum pay rules to pay him what he’s worth. Dude went from $28 million last year to minimum and he’s not even 28 years old.

If Woody Hayes was his coach he’d want Drummond to pass more often.

His age has nothing to do with it.

And you're missing the point. Yes, he's a good rebounder, and a good defender. If he was content to do just that, he'd be a good player even if he gave you nothing offensively. The problem is that he is a very, very bad offensive player who nevertheless insists on doing stuff he can't do offensively. Whatever extra possessions he may give you with those rebounds he gives right back with wasted possessions on the offensive end because he insists on trying to do things at which he stinks.

He's like a baseball player who hits line drives every time up, but despite being slow as hell, tries to stretch every single into a double, and every double into a triple. So sure, he can hit the hell out of the ball, but he keeps making outs. And every manager thinks he'll be the one to get through to the moron to quit trying to take extra bases, but the guy just keeps on running. So is he a good hitter? Yes. But as an overall player, he stinks.

You can't get Drummond's rebounding without all his negatives. And because those negatives stink like a week-old fish, Drummond himself stinks.

You've never watched Drummond play then?
I watched Drummond his whole career! Is he in the class of AD, Embid, KAT etc?? Hell No!!!
But his inside presence alters a lot of shots and his rebounding prevents other teams from getting second and third chance opportunities and his offensive rebounding got us and his other teams second and third chances at scoring. Talk about his shot selection all you want but I would take him over TT ANY DAY OF THE WEEK! Because teams were actually worried about him scoring on put backs.
There’s an old saying “If you ask for rain you gotta deal with the mud too”.
And there are TONS of players in the NBA just like Drummond that bring both positive and negatives. But you can’t over look and discount what that player does well.

You can win a championship ship with TT playing heavy minutes. You can’t with Drummond. He’s a net negative basketball player.

How you’re defending him, after he was exposed for what he is this past season, is beyond me.

Drummond sucks. You don't want him on your team regardless of where you are in the standings. He's an all around negative. He's not even a good defender v most competent NBA offenses who just pnr him into a mismatch or open shot.

Sorry about the double post!
they do, but I'm still right.
Put him in space vs a good offensive team and they will play him off the floor when it matters. Plus you can't even keep him on the floor in a tight game late because of the FT shooting.
The NBA actually happens on the floor, not by way of some data points on paper. And when that dude is on the floor, he sucks.
I'm not sure how a Cavs fan could have watched Andre for the last 2 half seasons he was in uniform and come to any other opinion on that dude other than he sucks.
He can help your team rebounding, and be a large body that impedes drives to the rim, but he can't switch out on G's and F's who can handle it and shoot, and then on offense any possession gained by him is wasted by him trying to dribble between his damn legs.
And has there been a more below the rim "athletic bigman" in the history of the NBA? He plays like Fat Kemp during Shawn's Orlando year (where he looked like a stunt double for Oliver Miller).
Sorry, that dude sucks.
