2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Looking at the comments by Drummond, Nance, and JBB yesterday what really struck me is how enthusiastic Drummond is and how he seems to be taking on a leadership role. I was thinking that here's a veteran who was traded to a crappy lottery team with one year left on his contract. He's going to just focus on having a good year individually and pad his numbers so he can get a good contract with a better team after this season. Instead, he's talking about how good this team can be, how he wants to mentor the younger players, and it sounds like he wants to be here long term.

The key quotes from Dre:

Accountability comes from all around. Being here on time. Giving your best and all each and every day when you’re in the weight room. Giving your best and all when you’re on the court. Being able to take criticism without being offended. Being able to critique yourself. Being able to take advice. Being able to do things without being told and when you are told being able to get it done at a high rate and giving it your best.

We’re not too far off. We have the caliber guys here to really make some noise. If we don’t make it to the playoffs, we’ll be damn close. I think give us maybe about a year before we’re a really, really, really, really good team.

I’m really excited to start this new journey with a new team. There’s a clean slate for me just to rewrite my journey….Being here in Cleveland, just opportunities are endless here. And I could do really great things.

It’s a young team with guys who are willing to learn and want to win. Just need a little bit of guidance. I think myself, (head coach) J.B. (Bickerstaff), Kevin Love and Larry (Nance Jr.) are going to be able to help these guys a lot. The process is fun for me, so that’s why I decided to stay.

My goal is to be Defensive Player of the Year. While I’m here I have no reason why I can’t do it with the way our defense is structured.

If we get our ass beat by playing hard, I’ll be content with that. But if we’re laying down and letting teams just give it to us, I’ll never be okay with that.

Chris Fedor mentioned that Drummond had KPJ down to Miami for a week of workouts and bonding, so he already started on helping out the younger players.

The reason he mentioned DPOY is because Bickerstaff talked to him about how much they need his defense.

We have high expectations of Andre on the defensive end of the floor. We believe that he can be a guy that shuts down the entire paint. We believe that he should be a guy that’s mentioned in the Defensive Player of the Year conversation. And we’ve had that conversation with him.

Offensively, he’s gifted, and he’s blessed. If we’re talking about winning basketball, he’s a difference-maker unlike very many guys in this league on the defensive end of the floor. We need him to impress his will on that end of the floor. The offense will take care of itself.

It looks to me like Drummond is excited to be here and wants to help the team win in whatever way he can, including being a role model for work ethic and accountability, playing defense, and providing guidance to the younger players. He's not here just to get his points and rebounds to set up his next contract, at least based on what he's saying.

I think it says a lot that Drummond was chosen along with Nance as the players they wanted to speak to the media on Day One. He seems to be all in on the Cavaliers, not just all in on his personal goals. Also, if he thinks this team needs "about a year before we're a really, really, really, really good team", why would he want to go somewhere else next season? He sounds like he wants to carve a spot for himself as a long term core player in this organization.

I wonder how many games a "really, really, really, really good team" normally wins in a season?

Accountability, being there for one another, leadership and taking that next step are the big messages this team is trying to establish for this season. I like it alot.

Sexton,Porter, and Garland needs to take a big step this season...

Where did you get the transcript. I like to watch the interviews or at least read them. I was surprised they didn't post the videos.

One thing I think Dre realizes is that he could prob get 20M here and not many other places. He knows Dan Gilbert's players can get paid, and that he won't balk at paying him and then paying Sexton or other young guys if the team is actually good. I think from Dre's perspective, making the Cavs into an actual playoff team is his best shot at getting more than 12-15M dollars. If he sucks on this team this year and has a year like his last one, no one is going to pay him.

I definitely don't want to pay him 30M, but 18-20 is cool with me if he can do these things he is claiming. Stephen Adams type of money.

It's weird they don't have the videos on their YouTube page.

I think the best way to get paid is by making yourself indespensible to the team you're on.

Sinclair didn't sell the RSNs. They sold the naming rights to Bally's because they want to be able to add live betting on the games. So they won't be Fox Sports Ohio, but Bally Sports Ohio. I doubt we see any new deals with Hulu or anyone else.

Sinclair is talking about selling directly to consumers. I wouldn't be surprised if the NBA tries to incorporate them into NBA league pass if they can't figure their own streaming service in time for the season. The NBA can't afford to lose viewers especially without fans in the seats. I hope that some streaming service picks up the RSNs again if a direct to consumer service isn't ready for the season.

RSNs are probably dead after the current set of contracts is up with the NBA and MLB. It makes more sense for the NBA and MLB to spread out games over broadcast and national cable networks while selling directly to consumers themselves.

Sinclair overvalued the RSNs on their own and didn't seem to understand that they couldn't leverage their current channels to get the RSNs into packages.

THE SINCLAIR COMPANY OWNS A LOT OF STATIONS THEY ARE FINANCIALLY SOUND

The way they have the RSNs set up they can let them fail and it won't have much of an effect on the rest of their business. The people in the driver's seat with this is the debt holders for the RSNs.

Here is the direct to consumers RSN stuff.

Sinclair's direct to consumer idea is dead in the water before it ever happens. Betting the price will be at minimum $30 a month for access to 1 fucking channel (2 if you're in Ohio). Bank on them overpricing it and it dying within a year. I may or may not have been privy to what they were asking for when all the streamers dropped them. If they think they're gonna get that value on direct to consumer, it's going to be outlandish priced.

Phase I is to talk it into a thing. Phase II is to actually play that way. I like the fact all of the guys have defense on the brain because we aren't a talent minus team. The Miami model is a fine one for this team to follow. We don't have a Jimmy persay but we do have Kevin.

Man, I am ready for this year. I got my cable hooked back up for this! (stupid Hulu Live)

I hope, the veterans and the coaching staff hold the young guys accountable and vice versa.. I think once that happens everything will be fine.

I'm not expecting this team to be in the top ten in defense but I do expect them to be around the middle of the pack or atleast around twentieth.

I'm tired of this team blowing leads or outright getting blown out for most of the season. I want this team to compete every night.
