2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
All of this talk about “losing is corrosive” etc etc. doesn’t matter, at the end of the day, the team with the most superstar talent is winning it all. Toronto had a winning culture. Didn’t matter til they got Kawhi. And they only won with him because GSW had injuries to their superstars. Then he left and Toronto became faux contenders again.

Cavs were horrible for years with Kyrie. Until they got Prime Love and Lebron.
Yeah, it really does, and it’s naive to suggest otherwise.

Nobody’s saying talent doesn’t matter; that’s a straw man you’re creating. That said, players aren’t fixed quantities. They don’t develop the same in shitty orgs as they do in winning ones. Kawhi is a good example. If he’d been drafted into one of the league’s black holes (think Sacramento, Minny, etc.), he doesn’t become the same player.

I offered that question recently. What’s better, deep playoff runs without a ring for 5-7 years or 1 ring and mediocrity for 5-7 years?

I’d rather enjoy myself for 5-7 now that 2016 is in the bag.

I'm fully in the let's become the recent Jazz / Pacers / Heat mode. We have a recent championship, now let's enjoy a long stretch as a solid team that year after year is a tough playoff out. I mean, if you're super lucky you can be like the Raptors of a couple years ago and have the timing be right for a trade & run with a Kawhi level star. Heck, a Lebron / Davis injury could've even vaulted the Heat to the title last summer. Who the hell would've predicted that last season pre-bubble or even during the bubble?

Frankly, a Jazz type team lucking out / striking gold and somehow winning it all one year? Not much (or any) more unlikely than a perennial lottery team lucking out / striking gold with their multiple top picks (i.e., how are the Timberwolves enjoying themselves this decade? The Kings? etc.).

This is why I think Sexton is kind of unique. I bet he develops into something wherever he is. The question of what is limited by the environment. If he was on Minny, maybe he just is a shorter Jordan Clarkson. But, I think with our coaching staff and the environment built around him, we see the results of having a plan and sticking to it. He made our culture here and I love that.

Live in Youngstown suburb. Drove across state line today, like 10 minutes, and placed a $200(max it would allow) bet on Cavs to win division that pays $60k. Obviously it’s a bet Giannis gets injured and misses significant time, Levert stays out, but I think we are clearly better than Pistons and Bulls.

Lavine is actually playing really efficient offensive basketball, but still one dimensional, and I just like our team better. Obviously it’s really a long shot, but in Covid basketball year where anything can happen, 300-1 felt right, and if by absolute luck it was even close down the stretch, I could hedge it a bunch of ways.

The app didn’t have it, so I couldn’t bet it, but I’m seeing +980 for us to make playoffs, but I think its graded at top 6, and play in game is separate bet. I still would have fired at top 6 at almost 10-1 if it was available. I don’t like getting these in casinos, but I don’t trust off shores for huge futures wagers.

thoughts?

Is it a bad thing if we don't win it all? Prior to 2016, I think the championship meant a lot for the city, but now that we have it? I would rather have a fun, cohesive team that is competitive at a high level for a decade, is close but maybe not quite championship caliber than a 2 year window to win another title with a team that I don't enjoy watching.

Even teams like the current Blazers, Jazz, and Pacers could all win one if everything breaks correctly. Hell, Miami was within 2 wins of a title last year. If you make it to the finals, you have a chance. I want a team that can do that.
The key is to build a team with enough talent to continuously make the playoffs, but maintain assets so, if a superstar becomes available, you can pull off a trade. All three of those teams are doing that. Ditto with the Nuggets. Raptors did that for years and then got Kawhi.

Good luck SVC. Smart Bet as well as they are playing. I'm from that area too, Poland, Struthers, Boardman.

I live in Poland, so quick drive. It’s a way long shot, but a fun sweat if something crazy were to happen with Bucks. Not rooting for injuries to superstars, but they happen. I saw Darren Rovell have a 200k future on NW against Ohio State just based on Covid chaos. They offered him a 80k buyout, which he initially declined. Not sure if he took a buyout as game progressed and it was close for awhile.

I just see Levert this year as iffy.. I like us better than Bulls and Pistons. So why not? It’s a night out drinking for a season sweat if something crazy happens.

Wow, just noticed the 12 year old account with first post. That makes it worth the bet right there. Welcome lol

Unless I missed something, I was looking through the Cavs schedule and do not see any games with the Bulls who are in our Division. How is this possible?
I’m here in Sac and there are no games scheduled against the Kings, either!

Don't really want to have this conversation, but I watched MJ torch Harper over and over and over again.
Onward to 2021.
My mom and I had season passes to the Cavs games and Jordan did not torch Harper over and over and over! Jordan basically owned the Cavs but again he said on more than one occasion that Harper was one of the toughest defenders he faced. But again we all have our own opinions and POVs.
