2020-2021 Cavs Season General Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Given the war chest of draft picks already in possession of OKC, them landing the top
pick will merely confirm that 'greed is good.'

I don't care. Cavs can't win another game. We are tied with orlando and okc for the 4-6 spot. Its major shit.

Young team, loss of a talented player (KPJ), lack of scoring depth behind Sexton and, in the second half of the season, Garland.

Making the playoffs would have been difficult in the best of times.

But the injuries to... everyone, really made making the playoffs impossible.
Plus we acquired Allen and Drummond didn’t want to be a backup. Drummond had a poor year for us but he did play some D, grab rebounds and take some of the scoring load off SexLand.

This was a rebuilding year where we went full yoot. After LeBron left in 2018 we really weren’t much better than an expansion team apart from Love, and he’s been injured. Assuming we get a good draft pick we‘ll have five promising young players with 0-4 years of experience (one per year), plus Hartenstein. Prince comes off the roster after next year, Love the year after that.

Allen is going to get alot of money on his new contract.

I hope he spends his off season working on building up
some strength so that he isn't bullied so much in the paint.
Might not be as many bruisers in the league these days, but
the strength will also give him some presence that might
discourage drives to the rim beyond the threat of a block.

He also needs a go-to move away from the basket. Like
a reliable mid-range jumper. This would open up the
team offense and make the pick and roll more productive.
The lob attack is fun to watch but tends to vanish against
top teams and in playoff competition.

His acquisition is one of the bright spots in another
season ending in hoping for losses and top lottery
spot.

I'd actually prefer Allen not expand his offensive game unless it's to add a reliable 3-point shot (which seems like a long shot)

He's a 65% from the floor guy on low-volume. That's exactly what I want out of him.

I would like him to get stronger for defensive purposes, but I think him trying to expand his offensive game will just end poorly.

with basically being forced to play the bottom of the bench due to injuries... unless the Cavs run into one of those two teams.... it'll be a tall order for them to win.

I don't agree. He has a reliable jump shot from the foul line but he is reluctant to take it. That shot could be very effective.

I want him to learn to do a better job of protecting the ball in traffic. I'm so sick of seeing him get the ball right at the rim, either off a pass or an offensive rebound, and then get stripped with no foul called. I want to see him secure the ball, throw his elbows around, and then power it to the rim without getting it swatted out of his hands.

He also needs to do a better job of using his body to screen defenders away from the ball so entry passes don't get poked away and result in turnovers. I'd like to see him play a lot more physical. Rebounds and passes seem to bounce off his hands a lot.

Unless he's going to make it 65% of the time and be the greatest midrange shooter in the league, no thanks.

Stating the obvious but: The Cavs can't run it back next year with a draft pick and expect to see a dramatic increase in wins. Way, WAY too many guys who are completely unreliable due to injuries. Between Love, Nance, and Delly...you can't make that work.

Delly needs to retire and if Love can't be moved then they absolutely have to look at moving Nance for a guy who can fit with the team and stays healthy. Even if it's a talent downgrade. It's entirely too much money tied up in the power forward position on dudes who aren't on the court nearly enough.

Makes winning for a young team really, really hard.

I feel like he took the midrange jump shot a lot more with the Nets? I don’t have stats to back it up but from the handful of games I watched looked like he went to that quite often. Feel like he really hasn’t taken that shot much in our offense

I don’t expect a huge increase in wins next year. The team is still short on talent, experience & health.

Not much we can do about Love. I’m expecting him to be here until he’s bought out after the trade deadline in 2023. If we can move him earlier, great, but I’m not expecting that.

I‘m ok with trading Nance if we get good young talent back, otherwise not. I don’t think that Love makes a lot of money should influence what we do with Nance.

Delly is a 15th man or assistant coach, nothing more.

Prince will be gone in a year or hopefully this summer.

It makes it hard to build a decent roster though.

Because of how often they're injured, you essentially need another decent PF who is capable of starting and playing big minutes. That's a lot of resources allocated to one position.
