The Women’s Softball team lost to Japan. I would say the loss was more of a disappointment than a shock. It is a shame that their pitching struggled in the gold medal game. They were so strong throughout the tournament.

Idk 2 run loss doesn't feel like its on pitching. Feels like the bats were nonexistent throughout the Olympics. The pitching staff gave up 3 runs total. All three against Japan.

I hope she gets through her personal demons that she is battling against. I am rooting for that. That said, that is a brutal time to walk out on your team. I would have a hard time trusting her if I were her teammate.

Yeah idk if she just pulled out of the Teams finals or if she's going to compete in the individual competitions. Haven't heard anything specific on it.

I sympathize with her and the ghosts she may be battling. Hard to say why exactly she backed out and I respect her decision. I just feel bad for the girl who didn't get the Tokyo invite because she took a spot on the team. That's shitty and someone missed out on their dream.

Not sure why, I know what she says. I also know she was recently talking about the sexual assault by that MSU doctor. Said she returned to show she is a survivor and give awareness to sexual assaults. So that with pressure maybe was too much?

Yeah I've seen people speculate about that being the reason. Idk I guess I'd prefer to hear from her perspective why she felt she was unable to continue. The yips could be from feeling like she lost a bit of her edge. She's been sloppy since they got in Tokyo. Could be a different feeling for her, not being able to do what she wants at will. She was joking about being the grandma of the team. So that may play a part. It could be the added pressure with the sexual assault news. Idk. Shame she feels like she can't compete. Shame her teammates lost to Russia. Shame she took a spot from someone who would have seen things through

I think the general reaction so far has been more accepting than I expected, which is good.

The next step is when the public discourse eventually just accepts it and doesn't demand a reason. She's free to give a reason if she wants, but she doesn't owe anyone an explanation.

It's bullshit their families aren't welcome in Tokyo. Each participant should be allowed 2 guests. Especially if they're in their young 20s or teens. This is prolly the first time in their lives they've competed without the parents (grandparents/ guardians) present.

Agreed, but private convo, we will never know real reason, and that is fine. She was there handing out chalk, cheering on her team, ect. They know.

Also, remember, gymnastics is so so so much mentally tougher than football or basketball. Free throw maybe, but shooting a free throw is so much easier than walking on a balance beam, or some of those other tricks.

I dont like the outcome, but i will not bash Biles for it.
