2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
20-80 also said Civale and Plesac are bullpen guys....

FWIW, Morgan has also added velocity on the FB-- sitting at 88-90 and topping out at 92.

But I'm not gonna discuss Eli Morgan vs. Luis Oviedo anymore. Like I said before, it's not about ceiling or ability. The Rule 5 draft is about who you're most likely to lose in the draft and it's Eli Morgan by a landslide. Oviedo was already exposed to the Rule 5 draft, didn't get selected and hasn't pitched since so I'm not sure why anyone would select him.
I didn't say they were the crystal ball, I said they described what I thought of Morgan better than I could myself. Look, clearly you're "high" on Morgan, and that's great and all, but he's a soft tossing RHP that you would protect in the rule 5 and I wouldn't. Since that was the question is there anything inaccurate in that statement?

Other than we think you are slightly insane haha I just hope he surprises you especially since he did add mph onto his fastball.

In my opinion, you go with the sure bet rather than the gamble. Morgan is a sure bet, Oviedo isn't a sure bet. We are a small market team, so if you gamble to much, you cannot over come it since you don't have the money to buy pieces of the team.

We've mentioned a few players the Indians should protect, but is there any that the Indians should be looking to grab if the opportunity presents itself?

We really won't know that one until the 40 man roster are set which isn't until closer to the end of Nov. We also don't know how many guys will be non-tendered either so this will be a harder to predict off season. All I know is we can easily get 7 open spots on the 40 man to add peeps.

I am "slightly insane", but that has nothing to do with my assessment of Morgan. Honestly, I'm not going to lose any sleep if either one of Morgan or Oviedo are selected. Nor will I be unhappy if either remain in the organization. I like the upside of Oviedo, but I also realize that he's a long way from realizing his potential. Morgan on the other hand has realized his potential, but he just isn't a special talent. Like I said, he's so far down the pecking order that he'll end up walking regardless or be part of a trade.

Well in 19, we needed number 10 and it worked out so its not so bad to have legit SPs when it comes to 9-10 in your depth chart. Also I think someone like Jefry could get moved to the pen because of his injury issues.

B/R is wrong... they don't have anyone on the inside with intimate knowledge..

SMH...

Edit: I like the Arenado to the Cards potential.. that would be very interesting..

Good Lord! Have they not listened to anything CA has said? So now Lindor is staying AND we're signing Brantley?

Things that I'm confident will happen:
1. Lindor will be traded.
2. Brantley will not be signed.
3. One of Perez/Hedges will not be back.
4. The options of Santana, Hand, and Hernandez will not be chosen.
5. A surprise move or 2 will be made that gives them financial breathing room and adds young, inexpensive talent.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Carrasco is dealt. The SP depth and need to trim payroll almost dictate that it's a possibility.

I would make it known that Ramirez could be had, but it won't be cheaply.

Agreed .... its too early to start looking for R5 targets...

Hence why I dont believe Bleacherreport ever about almost anything lol They seem to be fan written not insider/analyst written so they come up with some strange things on there some days.

Do you know when teams have to offer arbitration by this off season?

I know the Indians will try to add veterans of some capacity in the OF, INF, and lefties in the bullpen. I am waiting for the nontendered players to also look at how many players will be protected. I think teams will do more internal promotions than normal as well to fill in backup spots.

They may put a new rule in the books similar to the pitch clock - the home run trot clock. Of course it won't be enforced.

Back in the day there was an unofficial home run trot clock. The pitchers enforced it the next time an offfender came to the plate.
