2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Also, I think the extension was pretty fair for both sides leaning slightly in favor of the Indians

$1m raise in 2020, age 33 season. Picked up $10.25m 2020 option about 16 months in advance
$12m in 2021, age 34 season
$12m in 2022, age 35 season
$14m vesting option in 2023, age 36 season with 170 IP w/ $3m buyout

Since he signed that extension, he was diagnosed with Leukemia and we're 7 months into a global pandemic. Things can be unpredictable.

I don't think Carrasco would've been "cleaning up" in free agency as a 34 year old even without his Leukemia diagnosis or COVID. He was overall effective in 2020 but his rising walk rate is concerning. Maybe he would've got something like 2 yrs $30m or something in that range.

no.

A gentlemen's agreement is simply an informal agreement that all parties expect to be maintained. Every "bet" here on RCF is nothign more than a gentlemen's agreement. I say i will donate 25 dollars if the browns win the super bowl this year. Everyone see's that I post that, and everyone expects me to maintain that. However there is nothing legally binding that forces me to donate that 25 dollars if the browns in fact win the super bowl.

So to go back to your point, the entire damn world can know about the gentlemen's agreement with Cookie, but that ultimately doesnt keep Cookie from demanding a trade or the indians trading Cookie. However just like everyone on this board would be upset with me if i didnt actually follow through with my 25 dollar donation, the Indians/players would be upset if the other party violated the agreement.
Wish I could find a scratching head emoticon for this reply. Thanks for your detailed explanation but I still disagree. That’s okay, though, and why we read these boards.

Well... because you have "2" in your name twice.. you owe $ 100.00... Just sayin..

To me all it says is Carrasco would have to be informed/approve a trade to a new team. That being stated, I dont think he would actually want to go to the West Coast since he lives between Cleveland (during the season) and Tampa Bay area (in the off season). My guess is he would okay a move to like Tampa, Atlanta, etc, but not farther away from his family. My guess is the organization would honor what he wishes cause of the double extension he signed with the tribe.

I have no idea if there is an agreement between the Indians and cookie, but your understanding of what a gentlemen's agreement is incorrect.

That's my point.

Per Wikipedia:

A gentlemen's agreement, or gentleman's agreement, is an informal and legally non-binding agreement between two or more parties. It is typically oral, but it may be written or simply understood as part of an unspoken agreement by convention or through mutually-beneficial etiquette. The essence of a gentlemen's agreement is that it relies upon the honor of the parties for its fulfillment, rather than being in any way enforceable. It is distinct from a legal agreement or contract.

The key is “unspoken agreement.” Sounds private to me. Not exactly your definition but whatever, keep your $25. I won’t repeat my comment since you seem hellbent on being argumentative.

Man, do we need some real news in the worst way. The World Series is almost over so some things should start shaking out before too long.

Agreed. While many are focused on hearing news regarding options being exercised (or not)/ players being tendered contracts/ possible trades, I am really curious about how the minor league system will be structured in 2021 (& beyond) & by extension ... what farm teams the Tribe has (& where)..

I suspect that news will have a bigger impact then many realize..

I think that there is a gentlemen’s agreement between the league and the clubs that no trades are made until after the word series....................:02.47 tranquillity:

Notable exceptions to this agreement exists (almost always on a travel day.. or if a deal cannot be contained by the parties involved, the commissioner's office lets it out).. however, MLB and the MLBPA want the focus on the fall classic..

There is a two day/three day where rosterbation exercises occur.. then it's FA time..

Thoughts?..

WS is over - clock starts ticking on options and trades are now "legal"

Speaking of World Series is over...

The fact that Mookie Betts, traded for in the last year of his contract, put the Dodgers over the top in their quest for a World Series title, absolutely can NOT hurt the Lindor talks this winter.

In my head I can hear Antonetti referring to it over and over to other teams.

A follow on story via: https://www.mlb.com/news/mookie-betts-shows-off-speed-world-series-game-6

Supports the Mookie Betts move as the tipping point for the Dodgers..

And I might at shortstop Seager as the MVP. Doesn't hurt either - he's a SS.
