2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
People would have bitched if we traded him a year earlier.
Bitched, a little bit more than that - you are talking a riot.

I said trade him on the old IBI board and you would have thought I just massacred the Pope and MLK at the same time. Not the BOT, how dare you say a negative word about the BOT

I agree that the return for Kluber would have been much higher in the 2018-19 off-season, however, we won't fully know the return for Kluber until we see Clase pitch and whether Deshields sticks and plays better in 2021.

As for who's getting traded, I remain of the view that Lindor = 100%, Carrasco = 25%, and Ramirez = 0%.

The only thing I hope sticks is DeShield' ass to the seat of the bus headed out of town. If you're relying on him then you've already cancelled the season. He's a bench player at best.

They should have traded Kluber the year before. I pined for it and took a lot of shit. I'm no fortune teller by any means, but I had and still have confidence in the Indians ability to recognize and develop pitching talent. Add the idea of a talented, near ready SP prospect being added to the package for him and viola! You've received a better return and restocked.

Trust me when I say that there is a much greater chance than 0% that Ramirez is traded. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Ramirez is dealt and Carrasco is kept. I'm not saying that is going to happen, just that it wouldn't surprise me.

I enjoyed some of your posts but this one is insane.

How so good sir?
not trading Jose Ramirez will leave him with two years of service time under club control. We're being told that Lindor should have been traded last off season when he had two years of club control remaining.. so it will be the same path..

Here are a couple arguments for trading him:

-His capabilities/abilities during this time vis^a^vis his contract will far out strip his dollar value thereby creating tremendous benefit to the club..

-The financial "dire straights" of the club/business would be served.. and this is critical.

These are reasonable or at the very least sane arguments for trading him..

Lindor will be gone.. in his place will be a journeyman (Yu Chang), a kid (Tyler Freeman or Owen Miller).. or part of the return for Lindor (Senzel being put back at SS if it's the Reds and Indians that ulitimately make the Lindor deal) Competing with Jose next to one of these guys.. in 2021.. isn't going to be pretty..

otherwise.. Jose Ramirez needs to be traded a year early rather than a year late.. to maximize his return.. because HE'S GOING TO LEAVE THE INDIANS AT SOME POINT and I doubt anyone would wager JRam is going to be an Indian for life... Might as well trade him when his value is at its acme.. which is right now..

Insane.. not so much.. keeping him and watching his value decline.. that's insane..

I thought Bob could provide some reasoning behind the accusation. Maybe he has a legitimate argument as to why? Hell, at this point I don't know if he was referring DeShields, Ramirez, Kluber, or all of the above.

what we know so far is that he breaks down and he cheats

Not condoning PED use in any way but it's over and done with and he served his suspension. He's still young (22) and a high-end relief prospect who was fantastic for Texas in 21 games in 2019. I'm really excited about pairing he and Karinchak.

Here's a biiiig difference between Ramirez nearing free agency and Lindor - when both were offered extensions after the 2016 run, Jose signed and Lindor didn't. You may be able to work something out with Jose like they did Carrasco. Lindor has been looking forward to free agency for years.

Two very different men.

More on Mets off-season plans.

We expect to be somewhat active in the free agent market as opposed to the trade market. We don’t want to give up our young guys,” Alderson said, noting that the Mets plan to “recommit to our farm system and try to stay away from…our really prospects in significant trades.”

This, IMO, is an underrated issue with trading high end players this offseason. Couple the hit all teams took in the pocketbook in 2020 with the uncertainty about what to expect in 2021 and teams are going to be more reticent than usual to part with high end, cheap, controlable, talent. We can want to trade Lindor, Carrasco, Ramirez and, maybe, Perez for a boat load of top young players, but there's a chasm between the wishing and the doing in real life IMO.

Absolutely! If they idea is to keep Ramirez and extend him again then I can get on board with that idea too. What I don't want to see in the current state of this organization is him being dealt at a later date when his value is lessened.

If they think they need to rebuild then rebuild ffs. If they think they can retool then I support that effort as well. I want them to commit fully to whatever they decide and they may not be able to do that until they know what the return is from the Lindor and possibly the Carrasco trade(s).

They said retool and not rebuild and trading JRam sends a rebuild not a retool scenario in my mind. Their offense was atrocious in 20, and they are parting with Hernandez, Lindor etc who actually produced. Moving JRam would put the offense in an even worse spot overall and makes it hard to believe we are retooling if we have no proven hitters at all on the roster (outside of maybe Reyes?). I just dont see us going anywhere offensively if we get rid of JRam too.

If we didn't have a starting rotation like we did, I would 100% say JRam would be gone, but with the fact we have a top 5 potential rotation, we need bats to compete especially since the central will not be weak whatsoever.
