2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
David Dahl wasn't tendered by the Rockies, which is kinda shocking. I know the Indians really wanted him in the draft a few years ago and have checked in on his availability in the past. He was an All-Star in 2019. Has had injury issues. Wouldn't be surprised if the Indians get involved here.... Only 26 years old too.

Fuck, he's good when he's healthy.

I’d take a look at Dahl and/or Renfroe. Dahl is damn good when he's healthy and it wasn't just a short window either. He's been good from the get go. Both his home/away and R vs L splits raise and eyebrow though, and his AAA was spent in the PCL. We have Luplow to protect him from LHP so that would be a plus.

So yeah, there's going to be some quality players available at very reasonable costs. MC needs to get the Lindor deal done so that he knows what actually needs addressed.

Was Danny Santana's 2019 a fluke? Would he be worth giving a short term deal to if he can still play SS?

I am all for bringing in all players on minor league contracts with incentives! Let's make this a tough competition and the best 25 make it from camp regardless.

I feel we should be able to find some type of talent like we did with Hernandez last season to stopgap on this roster. Now, who exactly are we bringing in? I am not sure since we never seem to be able to predict it right lol

Dahl has to be the most interesting non-tender out there.... I suspect he is out of our price range though. If you think he can play CF, you might go for it hoping the bat is so good you can move it to a corner when it becomes convenient.

I like Dahl, but I am sure he will have enough suitors we don't stand a chance unless we really pay him.

What are the chances we see Reyes becoming an everyday outfielder this season as was hinted at over the course of last offseason? How poor are/were his defensive metrics in SD? Naylor seemed adequate in LF upon joining the Tribe, were their numbers similar in the outfield?

Could present some flexibility within the DH position to accommodate matchups on a nightly basis without changing the lineup regularly which we've been so stagnant in doing in recent seasons.

Just seems to me the Tribe will trot out the better of Bauers and Bradley at first base after Spring Training. And if the outfield needs a call-up around the All Star Break then they'll give Jones a shot... if Daniel Johnson and Mercado haven't been so hot.

Reyes wasn't in OF shape (in the Tribes mind) for the OF when he was in SD. They ask him to be in camp lighter for 20 and he was but he never got the chance to really get the reps out there. So I feel in 21, the Indians will want the same type of commitment from Reyes and I believe Reyes doesn't want to be an everyday DH anyways. Now what he will do... I mean he is the size of a football DE naturally so I'd be shocked if he is above normal honestly plus our division does have some spacious OFs outside of Clev.

I mean, I have no problem if all he {Reyes} does is be the absolute masher we saw he was capable of for stretches last season.

Would simply help if there was a set 3 piece combination of players outside the infield. After the carousel of calamaties we witnessed trotted out last season all options should be on the table until Lindor gets dealt. Just do not believe anyone knew what to expect or when they'd play, which ofc was amplified with Tito's absence.

Don’t all the NL teams and the AL teams with more losses get first crack at Dahl? I can’t remember how that works.

Renfroe can play decent defense in a corner spot and he can be signed. Probably forthe money that Naquun was making.

I believe when non-tendered you are a complete free agent so you can pretty much sign with anyone you want.

OK thanks! Then they should be talking to him immediately.

Is this Humphreys kid going to join the rotation or be put in the BP? Watching film of him gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. His delivery is easy, clean, and repeated. He doesn't walk many and is adept at missing bats. He might be the next pitcher that makes us wonder how in the hell they got him.

Or why?

Just looking at depth charts and injury history, I think pen is best focus. Unless we trade 2 of our starters, who is he going to beat out? McK, Allen, Quint, Civale? Maybe Civale. He was projected back end starter at best, back end pen floor. If he needs time to get rust off, the next wave of starters in Cantillo, Hankins, Hentges, Oviedo, Espino and Burns is around the corner. Even at his best, he was 11-15 range for Mets. If he can regain it, he is our 6th/7th starter for his option years. He is like Plutko or Moss is for us soon.

He's a command and control guy.. Think Adam Plutko with no more than one or two added ticks on his FB.. He's now fully past TJ surgery and should be coming into his prime... or, more likely...

Time to cross him off the list... We'll see...

I wouldn't know Humphreys if he walked into my living room, but by going thru his numbers and every scouting report I can find, he is a poster boy for a Tribe SP prospect. He's probably at least two years away, and will run up against the options clock. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Tribe petition to extend the clock, due to TJS.

Good size kid, average fastball with two average to better than average off speed offerings....impeccable command and control to both sides of the plate. Sounds like just about everybody in the present and immediate future rotation.

Just a thought about any comparison to Plutko. Plutko plus a few ticks on his fastball turns into Civale and Bieber...not as an end result, but as a mold.

The kid pre TJS didn't walk many, didn't give up many hits, didn't give up dingers, and had a ridiculous K/BB ratio. Post TJS he was sitting 93 MPH.

He was a lowly 18th rounder out of HS, but a few years of collegiate results similar to what he did in lower level pro ball would have zoomed him up the draft board.

We may never hear his name again, or he may be assigned to the pen at some point, but right now he certainly profiles as a Tribe starter.

I figured we'd keep one of Naquin and Hedges. Not surprised we let Naquin walk, but our current OF is bleak.. Think next year we cycle through some wannabes, surprises and retreads... Maybe even Naquin again.

Could be a rough year. better hope Detroit doesn't get better (they will) and we don't suffer many/any injuries to our pitching staff
I'm not surprised about Naquin, either. Let's be honest, it's just a matter of time for him to be on the DL.
