2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Humphreys highest level was 11 IP in A+ ball in 2017. His highest season IP was 80.2, also in 2017.

To put that into perspective, Cantillo threw 13.2 IP in A+ in 2019, and a total of 111.2 IP.

Humphreys very probably should not be in a conversation regarding the Cleveland rotation competition until 2023.

I still believe that he should not be relegated to a projection of AAAA/Plutko, simply because he is a much better prospect than Plutko...starting with at least a 4 MPH advantage in velocity.
We'll agree to see.. with the understanding that you're assessment leans toward more of a BOR SP or RP at the ML Level while my assessment puts him at a AAAA/Plutko type..

We'll see...

At the end of the day, we got him for absolutely nothing, so if he can produce at any type of level, then we are all golden.

Problem is we haven't heard from anyone about Humphreys yet, so we dont know how they see him and what they want from him. I would say as a starter, his numbers were solid until he got hurt, averaging over 6 innings a start and around 10 SOs per 9. I have a hunch he will start the season at high A or AA as a starter, and go from there.

At the moment he looks like an AAAA like Plutko with a better velocity. In due time he can prove a different label. Let's what to hear what the organization thinks of him before we set what he is going to do.

If you want to learn more about the Tribe’s off-season direction and plans, unfortunately this interview with Chris Antonetti reveals ver little except that Chang and Mercado are viewed as viable pieces for 2021.

"we continue to partner with Oscar to try to get him back on that path of being a really good major-league player.” man, talk about corporate speak - i wonder if CA will "reach out" to other gm's in order to create a "new paradigm" for baseball success in our "targeted market"

All I got out of that was "I can neither confirm nor deny"

Chang at SS and Mercado in CF. Boy, I hope the pitching is stellar. We could be in for a very disappointing season.

So in closing, Mercado could win CF duties, Chang could take over 2B or SS, and Naylor could play either 1B or LF, Jones is working on other positions(OF being named), and we don't know what the f'n payroll is going to be. Thanks Chris! What the actual fuck is he willing to discuss?

Here's the good news, we're all still able to speculate the hell out of the forthcoming roster build. So let the good times and arguments commence/continue. The article's title shouldn't be "Chris Antonetti, Cleveland Indians President, talks Francisco Lindor, Finances, and a lot more". Instead it should read "Here's a set of questions for Chris Antonetti where he doesn't answer a single fuckin one of them".

I wouldn't write off Mercado. Think he's closer to the 2019 version we saw than the awful, terrible 2020 version.

They're not going to write him off, but they are not going to totally rely on him either. He'll have to demonstrate that he can hit. I'd have a competition between Mercado, Johnson, and Zimmer. If they want to add to that mix then fine by me.

Writing off the 2020 season for the entire OF is going to be the best thing that the fans can do when thinking about the Tribe's season.. Sadly.. it happened.. now it has to unhappen going forward..and IDK how to do that..

CDAV: What happened to your Sandy Leon avatar? I want it back.

Be patient, I'm sure there will be another wonderful signing at some point. Until then Coach Murphy will have to do.

Boy, where is the love for Antonetti that has had such a following for so long. Used to be TABOO to say such things about him. Heck you could get relegated to the dust bins of history for such comments a few years back.
