2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Per Jeff Passon tweet

Right-hander Corey Kluber and the New York Yankees are finalizing a deal that will bring the two-time AL Cy Young winner to the Bronx, pending a physical, sources familiar with the agreement tell ESPN.
Man. Good for Kluber, but gross. Hopefully he has a 1.00 era but loses every game.

hmm.. a few thoughts/observations..

-Kluber: $ 11 MM is steep.. so is the elevation change on his breaking pitch..

-MLB Trade Rumors: Gonsolin and Ruiz for Ramirez is described by Mark Polishuk as inadaequate..

-Benintendi to Cleveland: makes sense.. may not make more than that..

-Mark Shapiro's five year extension says the Rogers Communications group understand patience and talent seldom come together in the same package.. when it does, you PAY FOR IT NOW !...

-Is this deja vu?..Frankie Lindor claiming he wants to sign and extension.. followed by not wanting to negotiate for signing an extension once the season get underway.. ?

-Tribefest was originally scheduled for a week from today.. I miss the barnstorming road show version of the event...

Thoughts?

Unless the Mets are willing to back up the Brinks truck and give Frankie the key, I would bet dollars to doughnuts that he will test the free agent market.

agree with this.. and would even go a step further.. Frankie could have the keys to the brinks truck and still would press into the free agent market.. Personally, I think it's a mistake on his part.. with the new CBA, the continuation of COVID-19 protocols and the morass of other SS's on the market.. he'll be just another guy...

So If Bauer ends up with the Mets, you would have three Indians guys reunited. Add in Klub's over with the Yanks, and it is almost like the Indians moved to NY.

Would be great to see the buds Cookie and Bauer pitch together again. And the dynamics of Lindor and Bauer, "not the greatest" buddies would be interesting also. And you would have to love to be a fly on the wall when Carrasco (draped in US citizenship) and Stroman have to share the same clubhouse together. Degrom's ego if Bauer was aboard ??? Would make for some interesting dynamics there.

One thing is for sure, you are adding in a lot of guys who know how to win. They might even be able to make that dysfunctional clubhouse functional.

Unless Frankie's agency is telling him that Frankie now has the leverage. Would be a bad look to Mets fans if their new owner makes a blockbuster deal for a star and cant keep him long term.

What free agents may end up having to settle for less?

Middle Infielders include Didi Gregorius, Cesar Hernandez, Marcus Semien, Tommy La Stella, Jonathan Schoop, Jonathan Villar, Jason Kipnis

First Basemen include CJ Cron, Mitch Moreland, Todd Frazier, Travis Shaw

Outfielders include Joc Pederson, Jackie Bradley Jr, Jurickson Profar, Kevin Pillar, Brett Gardner, Eddie Rosario, Adam Duvall

Steve, I could be wrong here, but I would think that they would have taken some lower level, highly ranked prospects in the Lindor/Carrasco deal if they were intending to sign a FA MIF.

1B is Bauer’s to lose I’m guessing. There is also Bradley and Naylor if he isn’t in LF. There was also word of Reyes playing some 1B, but I’ll believe that when I see it.

The OF looks to be some kind of mix of Naylor, Mercado, Zimmer, Johnson, Luplow, and Jones. I don’t think they’ll 1) spend the money and 2) block those that they currently have.

Interesting note..

At Yankees sites.. after Nick Krall announced that Luis Castillo will be in the Cincinnati Reds pitching rotation for the 2021 season.. a story was posted "claiming" the NYY's thought the asking price for Castillo (Gleyber plus) wasn't worth it..

I guess is you tell the NYY's "it" (it = castillo) will cost you X, Y AND Z.. and being told..No way... you're no longer interested in "it"... Shocking coincidence..hmm?..
