2020-21 Offseason Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why

I don’t get the constant pushing and paranoia. They know how to run a season now.
just do it.
Not to speak for jup but he could have been reacting to the news from MLB that shutdown/ is preventing teams from allowing pitchers & catchers to report early..
The Tribe had a plan in place for players to start arriving in groups of 10 or so starting in mid-January so people could be covid tested/ isolated for a couple of days and then start working out in larger & larger groups as spring training was about to begin..

Additionally word has already been released that spring training will be in 2 phases (MLB & AAA to begin, then the rest of minors AFTER the conclusion of the 1st camp). Minor league levels below AAA have already been told their normal start will be delayed/ pushed back and games would be continuing throughout September. If I can find the story, I will edit the post to link it here for everyone.

Edit: Here is the story regarding the minor league season being delayed & spring training being split into 2 parts (from 1/5/2021)...

Sign me up for bringing back Santander to the organization. He would likely cost at least a top 10 prospect of ours, but I wouldn't be opposed to moving someone like Rocchio for him especially considering the abundance of SS in the farm system.
I'd trade both Naylor's and one of our SS prospects for Santander yesterday. I might even throw in a decent pitching prospect.

I was so bummed when Satandar got taken. Thought he had a lot of potential. Would take him back with open arms and trade some of the prospect depth we have.

My guess is money is playing a role in that. A full season of pay without fans - at least at this point - would be a disaster for a lot of owners.

Brantley signs 3 year deal with Toronto. That lineup is pretty nasty, but will they have enough pitching?

Biggio
Springer
Bichette
Teoscar
Brantley
Vlad Jr.
Gurriel Jr./Grichuk
Rowdy
Jansen

I wonder if Grichuk or even Gurriel could be had for one of our ML-ready SP

Now we see why Shapiro signed a 5-year extension: he was given the green light to spend on FAs.

Well I guess Brantley went to the Astros not the Blue Jays lol

Also who are the Indians gonna sign/acquire?

The roster is so cluttered that it's hard to get a read on. I think they'll look to sign a LHRP for sure, but after that I have no idea. Other than Pederson, what FA is even desirable?

Sign someone by spending money? The last trade pretty much answered this question for me.

If you aren't even gonna attempt to improve the team why not have an all out youth movement?

There's still time and anything could happen, but I'd guess that most(if not all) of the money that CA said would be reinvested will go towards extending players already on the roster, ie Bieber.

If you are one that has faith that any of Mercado, Bauers, Bradley, Johnson, or Zimmer will "figure it out" and that Jones will be ready to contribute sometime in 21 then we don't really know what positions to even address. I think it's safe to say that Gimenez and Rosario will win SS and 2B duties and there is plenty of depth behind them in Chang, Miller, and maybe Freeman at some point as well. 1B is a logjam with Bauers, Bradley, and Naylor. C is covered by Perez and Hedges. 3B is a lock as long as we have Ramirez. LF is covered with Naylor or Bauers, CF is Mercado and/or Zimmer. RF will probably be Johnson and Luplow. Where will Jones debut if/when he is called up? That will depend on who is performing the worst I guess. This may be the most depressing roster, position player wise, that I've witnessed in a long time.

My fear is that they'll hang onto Ramirez and his numbers will falter do to this pathetic lineup. He'll walk more than Carlos Santana if we play the season out as is. Teams will not let him beat them and they will be idiots if they do.

This is quite the conundrum we have here. It would be nice if CA would shed some light on the issue instead of vague open ended comments.

your overall roster looks pretty spot on, but I think Chang is our 2021 SS to start the year and Gimenez starts in AAA.
