Almost every big contract given out looks like a big mistake over the last few years of it.

At this point, I think teams have to know that when they’re handing out these deals.
Did an analysis of this some time back.. one in twenty of these greater than 6 year contracts give the team a positive result.. many are mediocre to bad.. one in four are abject disasters.

BTW... the best ones of these long term deals.. Arod.. and Jeter..

Scherzer should be in the conversation for best

A-Rod's Rangers contract turned out well. The one he signed with the Yankees, not so much.

The Yankees have paid A-Rod $130 million since the start of 2012 ($9 million was deferred). He accumulated just 4.7 fWAR in 382 games and was released in 2016 with 2 years and $40 million left on his contract.

The first major deadline move...

Walker from the Ms to Jays for a PTBNL.

Rather unexciting in the present, because we don't know the return, but Toronto has several exciting prospects not on the 60 man.

While Walker isn't a rotation headliner, he does upgrade Torontos pitching staff significantly on paper.

Toronto is a strong favorite to make the post season, with Detroit and Baltimore as the two teams closest to them.

FWiW.... Shapiro/Atkins are inclined to take an ALL IN approach if they can smell the playoffs.. and they do.... I wouldn't discount the Jays remaining in the hunt for adding more..

I assume the PTBNL could be significant?

I will guess “not that significant” ( eye of the beholder, I know), as Walker is a pure rental, and probably not that impactful in grand scheme....but it would be interesting to know, just to understand how the market is setting up.

Half way pole and it looks like MLB will finish the season.

Any doubters changed their minds yet ?

I was 50/50 on the first day of the season, so being half way, does that make me 25/25 now? I'd still not say it is a lock, but they have successfully weathered a few storms -- I'd have to be more like 90/10 at this point.

The Jays, dependent upon your definition of all in, are looking to make more moves. But no way will Shapiro trade away his elite prospects for rentals.

They do have a bunch of their better prospects not on their 60 man, including about half of their top ten, including one top 100.

Its also possible that Seattle's return is conditioned by how Toronto finishes the season. Or perhaps the two teams have agreed to a list of prospects that the Ms may choose from.

Honesty - I love it

I'm still guessing the the return is likely in the lottery ticket range...not much in relative terms. That said, I wish we knew, so as to gauge market, but so it goes.
