Nightengale is often wrong. I hope he’s wrong here if this means all 16 teams playing a first round 3 game series.

Need to have some incentive/reward for the division winners or the top 4-6 records.
according to the other thread the top 3 teams from each league will get to pick their first round opponents.

That’s cool. Why not. Season is one of a kind and weird as it is. I just don’t like 3 game series for determining the best team in a sport like baseball but so be it. If they’re set on a three game opening round fr all 16 teams, why not let the top 3 teams pick their opponent based on matchup, injuries etc. it’ll make for a highly rated Playoff Seeding/Selection show.

Posted it in the other thread, too

it appears the the top 2 teams in each division get In ...then the next two best remaining records in each league.

WTF! I have an MLB.tv subscription and I am not allowed to watch the Yankees and Nationals game on TV live. It says its blacked out on MLB.tv

Yeah. The game's blacked out in the teams' local areas.

The Yankees are America's team, so their games are blacked out in America.

The Nationals games are blacked out Nationally.

I get whomever has the rights to it gets to only broadcast it, but whats the point of any blackouts this season? I mean its hurting baseball more than helping it this year.

Why limit that to this year?

It's always been the case. Blackouts are self-inflicted wounds. If your issue is low attendance, shutting off the product from viewers probably isn't the way to grow your audience and increase attendance.

The games tonight are on national television. Why would ESPN pay to air these games if people who do not subscribe to ESPN can view them? I legit do not get the complaint.

I guess from my point of view, I pay to watch the baseball games and its not just about tonight, its the fact that MLB blackouts a ton of games even when people are paying them directly to watch them. And normally a MLB.tv customer gets to watch ESPN games as long as they arent the local team, plus its opening day. Wouldnt you think as a business, you would want everyone to be able to see that, just not a select few?

I guess in due time, like even Trevor Bauer said, they need to fix the blackout issues so everyone can watch baseball in a way. Turner, who owned the Braves, wanted everyone to be able to see and watch his team and growing up in Canton, i saw more Braves games than Indians cause even though the Indians sold out the games, Time Warner liked to still have it blacked out in my area.

No, I do not believe you should be able to watch national TV games if you're not paying for those channels like the rest of us. If everyone gets to watch for free, there is no business there. It's not a "select few" who get ESPN. That was a silly thing to say. STO pays big dollars to air the Indians. It boggles my mind that people cannot wrap their heads around the fact that if you are local, you need to subscribe to that channel paying to air the team, otherwise there is no incentive for them to pay to air the games. You are not entitled to baseball, it's not a right.

Can the blackout regions be tweaked to make more sense? Yes. But you absolutely cannot end blackouts altogether if you want to generate revenue.

Nobody is saying they should get it for free. They're paying for MLBtv and unable to watch nationally televised games as well as many local games.

I understand the argument that ESPN pays for those rights, but you must understand the frustration of the other side, right?

Nobody is claiming watching baseball is a right. Might want to step off that high horse before you take a tumble. It'd hurt from up there.

If you're MLB, blackouts are a self-inflicted wound. You're hurting yourself and reducing your revenues over the long-term. But, for how ass-backwards the sport has been run, I'm not surprised they've kept them in place.

I do understand the general frustration when you cannot watch something you want to watch. MLBtv makes no claims that you will be able to see nationally televised games. It's out of market, non nationally televised. This is the same way the NBA does it, same way the NHL does it. If you buy Sunday Ticket, you don't get to see Monday Night Football without an ESPN subscription. It's every professional league and it seems completely fair to me. Those networks pay SO MUCH money to air these games. How much do you think the packages would have to cost if you had to subsidize what leagues would normally be paid for a national TV package? I'm guessing at least double.
