I still think there is a chance that Dorsey won't be willing to correct the problem at HC and he gives Freddie one more year. If that happens I hope they can get someone who meshes better with Freddie on offense and they get some qualified to take over the defense.

And who's gonna fix the discipline? The penalties? The off field stuff? Who's gonna lead the team? Giving Freddie a new toy on offense won't address any of that.

That's if Stefanski wants to be here after being passed over for Freddie. Sure put him at the top of the list but I left him off for the same reason as Josh McDaniels. They have to want to be here. Also Doug Marrone is better suited for this job than most of the names I've seen who have never been NFL Head Coaches. He's not even a horrible coach.

Doug Marrone is the most unlikable man on the planet. He ruined any and all culture that the Jaguars had built in Jacksonville and was actively hated out of Buffalo. He's a decent X's and O's coach but he would be, possibly, the worst possible hire the Browns could actually make.

Additionally, you don't turn down NFL jobs. McDaniels has basically been promised to be the guy in waiting and won't leave unless it's for a better job than New England. If they don't get Stefanski, they will still have plenty of good coaches willing to coach here. Despite their under performing, this team has plenty of talent and with a good coach, they could easily make the playoffs next year.

That's fine, I stand by what I said with regards to Marrone. I cannot imagine anyone hiring him, and anyone who does hire him will ruin their team. He's a bad guy and a poison in the locker room, actively hurting team chemistry.

We'll see if the Browns actually go after an experienced HC, I'm sure they will because NFL teams are dumb, but it shouldn't and I cannot imagine it would be Doug Marrone. Honestly, I'd rather have Pat Shurmer.

Is this a little premature or did I miss something?

Wildly and crazy premature. I'm not sure if John Dorsey is even going to fire Freddie after 1 year, barring the Browns getting swept by Cincinnati or something like that.

Riley
Caldwell
Kubiak

give me either the best up and coming mind or a steady hand who knows how to hire a staff and run a team.

Speaking of Doug Marrone poisoning the locker room check out this very interesting article.

A few things stand out here. The first thing is some of the stuff that players allegedly don't like about Doug Marrone actually reflects poorly on the players more than Marrone.

This part was very interesting

When asked if he was surprised, Dareus said, "I'm surprised he didn't do it earlier. He seemed miserable. Things were tense. He was always anal and cared about little stupid things, micro-managed us.''
He added, "What difference does it make if I don't have team-issued socks for practice, and what does putting on a sweater in a cold meeting room have to do with winning?''
Inside linebacker Preston Brown told The Buffalo News that Marrone, who spent four seasons as head coach of Syracuse before he joined the Bills, was too "college-y. Coming from Syracuse, he kind of controlled guys instead of letting us be grown men and do what we've got to do."

Now look at that and tell me that Freddie Kitchens isn't the total opposite? Players having uniform violations and showing up late for games and meetings is the norm around here. Doug Marrone does not allow that. Neither does Tom Coughlin. Compare that to guys basically running around here unchecked. Also the irony in Marcell Dareus being the guy speaking out on Marrone is JAX actually traded a 5th round pick that later became our starting RG Wyatt Teller to BUF for Dareus and he's back playing for Marrone again with no complaints. It's interesting when players and coaches get a bad rep for things and you actually take a look at it and it really seems overblown. So Doug Marrone will ruin a locker room because he instills discipline, accountability, wants players to focus on the details? Some players who don't like that speak out and now he gets a bad rep as a locker room killer? Very interesting.

I just thought I'd post this because Jimmy Haslam has pursued Doug Marrone 2 times. If I recall Doug Marrone was the first interview we had the year we hired Hue and he was also recommended to Haslam by one of those NFL coaching firms. Corn/Ferry or whatever it is.

I didn't say it was a good idea but I'm not sure Dorsey will admit he made a mistake with Freddie after just one season.

If you give Freddie an actual O-line and someone that meshes with him better than Monken, maybe some of his flaws work themselves out over time.

I don't think he looks as in over his head as he did at the start of the season. Maybe he makes a jump after this season.

I'm all for getting a better HC and staff but part of me wonders how this team would look and feel with a competent defense. Too often the momentum swings because this defense can't stop anything. This defense really lacks timely plays and just getting off the field when they should.

I don't think adding another coach will fix Freddie's flaws. His biggest flaw is that he's not a leader. There's only one way to fix that.....

I’d rather have Moroni coaching the Browns than Marrone.

At least he knows how to deliver invisible plates.
