2020 Buckeyes Football

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Huge we got Coombs back. It wasn’t a coincidence that our secondary play fell off a cliff when he left for the pros. We stabilized it this year but it was ugly for a second.

Recruits his ass off. Fiery as hell and he makes pros. His track record speaks for itself. This is BIG for our green guys and likely the main reason Wade didn’t go to the NFL.
Just a few of the reasons he's getting paid more than any assistant in the history of OSU football.

Was listening to the Doug Lesmerises podcast the other day. He keeps talking about the 2018 recruiting class that was ranked #2 by 24/7 (and that was without Justin Fields). Here are guys from that class who were ranked top #100

Nicholas Petit-Frere (#7)
Taron Vincent (#20)
Tyreke Johnson (#21)
Jaelen Gill (#30)
Tyreke Smith (#34)
Jeremy Ruckert (#37)
Teradja Mitchell (#44)
Tommy Togai (#55)
Matt Jones (#68)
Josh Proctor (#71)
Kamryn Babb (#73)
Brian Snead (#80)
Tyler Friday (#93)

That's 13 top 100 guys. Furthermore, there's 1 OT (NPF) 1 interior OL (Jones) 2 DTs (Vincent and Togai) 2 DEs (Smith and Friday) 1 LB (Mitchell) 1 S (Proctor) 1 RB (Snead) and 2 more DBs (Johnson was listed as a S and Babb as a WR, but both are corners now).

OSU lost starters at RB, RT, LG, DE, 2 DT, OLB, 2 CBs and a S. That's 11 top 100 at those positions. Now, we certainly don't expect new starters to come in and as good as Chase or Okudah or Dobbins or even Malik Harrison from day 1. But we have talent at those positions who haven't really made their mark yet (partly because the guys ahead of them were blocking them). When you add in players from other classes fighting for these jobs, I think we can come out OK.

So it'll be interesting to see how these position races sort themselves out. For sure you can say that for just about. every position battle, we have a guy who was highly rated and has been on campus 2 years ready to compete for that job.

Truly a make or break year for the majority of guys on that list who are still around.

Yeah, Tyreke Johnson comes to mind; if he can’t beat out Riep/Brown/Banks for one of those two vacancies I’m not sure the light ever comes on especially with Coombs back in town.

Dawand Jones will give NPF a serious battle for RT imo; don’t think that’s anywhere near a lock (not that anyone here is saying it is). Proctor was seeing plenty of burn last year so I think that progression continues and he steps into that single-high role.

Going to be interesting; have to think the defense takes a small step back but the offense should still score at absurdly high rate.

Proctor and Togai I think are guys that will start from the first day spring because they clearly the top guy returning. Everyone else is a bit of a question mark.

Yep. That H battle is going to be ridiculous; Jaxon Smith-Njigba is taking reps there right now but Gill is a guy trying to secure his playing time. Olave and Wilson should see a majority at their X/Y spots so it’s just a matter of determining the rotational guys. Doubt Jameson Williams goes quietly either.

I am gonna guess Day doesn't use the H position like Urban did. There's always need for slot guys, but Urban was usually very specific about the guys he recruited H vs X/Y.

If Julian Fleming is the 3rd best WR, then I think he'll play the most, and there might not be a designated H guy. I think both Olave or Wilson could do damage from the slot.

And certainly guys like Gill or JSN or maybe even Mccall might have some plays where they are the slot as well.

When did Babb become a corner? Heard Stover moved to TE.

I think that speculation is based on this:

I'm not really sure if its true, or if he was just reppin' with Miller on the side. Would be a surprising move, IMO.
