Alomar said Cimber lost his "wipeout" slider and his sinker is catching too much of the plate. He thinks it may be a mechanical problem that Cimber needs to fix.
After last season Cimber divulged that his arm angle dropped by nine inches which flattened out his pitches. He wasn't aware of it until looking at video after the season. I guess this year they're not waiting until after the season.
I'm wondering if his funky delivery is so high maintenance that it's easy for him to lose the correct arm angle, release point, etc. But he's 30 years old so at this point in his career you would think he could keep his mechanics solid for more than 40 games.
This whole virus thing with the alternate site is interesting because it's a place where you can send players for a time during the season to work intensively on a problem with coaches without having to play competitive games. Oscar Mercado got off to a horrible start at the plate so they sent him down to work on his swing with a hitting coach - now he's back. I expect Cimber will be back, too, in a couple of weeks assuming he can figure out his mechanical issue and get his slider acting right.
