2020 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not all compensation in life is monetary. That's why unpleasant jobs that require less education may actually pay more than more fulfilling/pleasant jobs.

And sometimes, people want to do something simply for the sheer pleasure/enjoyment of it. Hell, going on a date increases your potential exposure to Covid, and (unless your date is @Lee ) you're not getting paid for it. Should that be banned too?
So poor first example. On average the more educated you are the more you make. Yes there are some examples, but vast majority isnt that way.

But to the overall point i understanding these kids want to show how tough they are and that they dont care or worry about getting sick and potentially (even if its a small risk) putting their lives in danger. However at some point the risk just simply isnt worth it. And right now its not. We get a vaccine and everything changes or if we can show that these symptoms people have post COVID "recovery" arent serious/related to COVID I am all about it. But there is just so much we dont know right now about the body's recovery to COVID

Yeah, just so everyone is 100% clear.......it doesn’t matter if you play this fall season or not, the NCAA is not counting this season towards eligibility.

If you play that’s cool......free year. If you do not play, it’s no issue......maintain your class.

They’ve made it an individual choice for coaches and players at every turn.

Think it's inevitable at this point...likely just working out the logistics (scheduling, TV, etc).

Based on everything that's been out there the last couple days? 99.9%

In fairness, they still have an entire month to get cold feet and cancel.

I won’t be 100% convinced until a foot hits the ball on a kickoff.

What sucks is that Wyatt Davis has opted out of the season. So unless Day can convince him to rescind his initial declaration, that's the best offensive lineman in the country that they'll be without. I want a Natty this season... especially with how the refs did us dirty last year in the game against Dabo's Douchebags and because of all of this COVID bullshit. So losing him hurts.

It hurts, but I'm not as worried about losing him as I am Wade. OSU has some solid 4* and 5* guys waiting in the wings on OL and I'm not convinced a guard, as good as he is, would be the difference in winning a national championship or not. Shawn Wade, on the other hand, that's a big loss. Secondary depth isn't quite there. Assuming the season happens they'll now be down their top 4 corners from last year (Okudah, Arnette, Wade, Riep).

Wade opted out, too.

edit - Weird that he and Davis opt out right when there is momentum for an October start.

Very weird. Especially Wade. His dad was the most vocal of all the football parents about having a season. He organized and led the protest, and now that there is finally optimism of a season happening in the fall and a path to play in the CFP, his son opts out? What the fuck. I'm just trying to make sense of it and unless they know something we don't, as far as the optimistic reports being false, then I just don't get this one. Davis has at least left the door open to return. Wade's comments seem pretty definite. I'm just super confused on the timing here.

Meh, it’s a bummer about Wade but he’d have been a round 1 guy in last year’s draft. Our secondary depth isn’t good right now so that’s a bit scary.

I know they're saying October 17th, but all I can think is Wade and Davis, and their families are tired of the yo-yo act so they're literally taking their ball and going home.......to prepare for the draft.

I could see Wyatt potentially coming back......I'm not sure about Shaun. I actually think Shaun has a bit more to lose in event he didn't look exceptional on the outside. He's a top 15 pick right now, which is very solid. I'm just hypothesizing, but had he played in this really awkward year, and didn't show out on the outside, all of a sudden top 15 starts moving towards back half of round 1 as NFL scouts start thinking he's just a nickel corner.

Anyways, I hope the Big 10 puts out a statement, and maybe these guys re-think it and come back to make a run. Wade is a huge loss in terms of depth at CB.....especially with what happened with Amir Riep. It's thin and inexperienced. Sevyn Banks and Cam Brown are the only guys with PT, and one of them goes from nickel to outside now. Will be interesting how they handle slot.......does it go to a safety like Hooker, or potentially a CB with little to no game experience?
