2020 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So, should we be concerned about Urban pouching our staff if he takes the Jacksonville job? Mick Marriotti, Brian Hartline, Corey Dennis to name a few.

I’m a little concerned.

I’m not sure why he’d want that smoke, personally. But who knows.

Why not?

Jaguars ownership would probably give him a 10-year deal if he asked for it and they have given previous regimes a significantly longer rope than they've warranted, so he'd have job security and stability.

He'd be inheriting a situation with a ton of cap space, a ton of draft picks and a possible franchise QB on deck, so he'd be able to get players quickly.

And the Jacksonville media market is probably the smallest and tamest in the entire league.

It's the most low pressure job in the NFL and it's primed to get much better really quickly.

It's kind of a no-brainer if Urban actually does want to take the NFL plunge.

Yeah, well, he’s one of the best college coaches ever, has more money than his family will ever need, is a made man in Columbus and has a cushy Fox gig. Plus, assuming his health issues are as bad as they say, doesn’t seem worth the stress. At all. Unless he has some intolerable competitive itch he cant scratch elsewhere.

Has literally nothing to do with the Jags situation, which I won’t delve into besides saying sure, it’s decent enough.

Side note: Sure, they might give him some mammoth deal and whatever he wants. But doubt they’d just let him suck for ten years with no pressure. We all know what NFL stands for. He would need to produce, and would have all the insane pressure that comes with running an NFL franchise.

You nailed it.

Urban Meyer has been coaching football for almost 60% of his life. I would be absolutely shocked if he doesn't coach again. Soon.

He very well may. I wouldn’t be shocked if he did at all. I added that in there because that’s literally the only reason it makes sense for him to coach again, but I think it’s very likely that is the case.

Maybe his health issues are overblown. For his sake, I sure hope so.

If he leaves the Ohio State coaches alone, I would prefer he go to the NFL. If he coaches in college again, he would definitely steal some Buckeye assistants.

Undoubtedly.

Would legitimately hurt us in recruiting, too.

The only job Urban Meyer would consider at this point is Notre Dame.

He's had his chance at every other job, some of them multiple times, and has not moved on any of them.

While I appreciate the fact he's become the new Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher of coaching searches nationally, we've pretty well seen what Urban Meyer is going to do in this business going forward.

Dip a toe in the NFL searches and live the dream life as a TV analyst making bank, resting comfortably as a legend.

I don’t see Meyer working out in the NFL but it’s all about the QB at the end of the day.

I just don't think his style of coaching translates that well to the NFL and he doesn't strike me as having the patience to deal with personalities. He's all about preaching maximum effort which translates to success on the field and in life.

That works wonders for student athletes but I could see his personality clashing with veterans who've already earned their keep in the league.

Meyer would certainly sell some tickets though.

My thoughts exactly. He’s an inflexible dictator who makes his bones as a CEO culture builder who dominates recruiting. NFL is ego management and X’s and O’s. Urban is built for college football.
