2020 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Luke Fickell to East Lansing?
Fickell and Narduzzi seem like the logical candidates.

However, MSU's recruiting slipped a little the last few years. Given the late start a new coach would have, its a bit of a risk. If I'm Fickell, I am wondering if this is the time cash in his chips. Another 10 win season at Cincy, or maybe even a NY6 bowl would make him a very hot candidate for any job.

Pitt is a bit of a treadmill job, and I could see MSU being more appealing to Narduzzi right now. Plus, he might be more familiar with the current staff.

Cinci just landed one of the top QBs in the country. Wonder if Luke will see what he has in him for a year

With all the issues within the administration and the athletic department over the past 5-10 years, I wouldn't touch MSU with a 10-foot pole. Especially not until I found out the fall out from whatever is being left behind by Dantonio.

This job should be open next year anyway. I'd guess MSU goes through the year with an interim coach given the timing. Barring Cinci falling off the face of the earth this year, Fickell's going to be at or near the top of the list for basically any big opening,

Thought for sure he was the next OSU coach but they rolled with Day which has worked quite well so far.
Yeah, Day looks like the real deal thus far.

One thing that scares me is Urban returning to coaching and stealing away his longtime staffers.

I would worry most about Pantoni and Marrotti. Especially Pantoni. Urban's recruiting was great, but he was also already a good head recruiter. Day obviously had way less experience in that regard, and I think keeping Urban's recruiting guy helped him.

I don't think Larry Johnson is going to leave. Studrawa, Coombs and Hartline have obvious Ohio ties already. Al Washington never coached with Urban, and he's probably just as likely to get poached by another school as a DC or HC . I guess Greg Mattison has Urban ties, but would he leave for another job at his age?

I was specifically referring to Pantoni and Marrotti. Those guys are pillars of the program and certainly made the transition to Day much smoother.

Waiting out Harbaugh?

I was talking to someone with a strong Mount Union connection, who played with Campbell. They don’t see Campbell leaving ISU. He doesn’t have major spotlight. They are happy with 7+ wins a year, he just signed a new deal and not much pressure.

That’s more of an opinion on their end. So take that as you will

Thought for sure Meyer would end up coaching elsewhere eventually but that opinion dwindles with every passing day. Do we still think he is?
