I have a buddy who is a D2 STC/Position Coach. They declared a conference-only schedule about a month ago and were told this week that they have about a 0.0001% chance of playing this fall.
It isn’t surprising; unfortunate, but had people taken more of a responsible approach maybe we could talk about a season being more likely. If this is what it takes to keep people safe then so be it — whether they appreciate it or not.

Just tough to put kids out there that aren’t getting paid.D2 I can believe, but I still think the power 5 are in hell-or-high-water mode, excluding maybe the northern half of the ACC, some of the PAC-12 and some of the lower-level B1G schools i.e. Maryland/Rutgers/Northwestern.
If we have no reliable vaccine for the 2021 season, and I still think we will, I could nevertheless see phasing back in some regional non-conference matchups i.e. B1G vs. MAC games and possibly some non-regional marquee games i.e. USC vs. Bama.
People need to come to terms college football or college sports are not happening this year.

Just because they did it doesn't mean they should haveNebraska, which has the 14th highest per capita case rate, was just able to have a high school game with a couple thousand fans:

There are some meatpacking plants that have been superspreaders in some of the Plains states..

Even if the results turn up fine, it doesn't mean that the process was soundLet's see what test results say in a few weeks.
I vehemently disagree with the Alex Berenson*/New Anti-Mask League school of thought on the virus, but there's pretty overwhelming evidence that the risk is greatly lowered outdoors. Most of the players and likely even coaches, who are often young at the HS level, were very low-risk, and the audience looks like they were fairly spread-out.
*It's crazy that this leader in COVID discussion pushes the idea of "fear porn" when, barely over a year before he got into commenting on this, he wrote a book on weed that's...about as fear-porn as you can get. Continues to stand by it, but appears to very tightly control the terms of any discussion, i.e. heavily blocks on Twitter to keep his ratio up. Not that I expect a lot of depth from Rover - even though he is willing to debate aggressively sometimes - but he went far too easy on Berenson when he was on a few weeks ago, and conveniently didn't even bring up Tell Your Children until after the talk was over - although I suspect that was part of AB's terms of talking.
Exactly. Policy should not be driven by data and facts but rather by adherence to strict guidelines regardless of whether those guidelines are justified.Even if the results turn up fine, it doesn't mean that the process was sound
Not what I said at all. I'm just saying that anecdotal evidence is ultimately irrelevant, which is what Nebraska's results two weeks after a high school football game would classify as.Exactly. The coaches’ proposal includes a fall season of baseball, field hockey, golf, tennis, track and field and volleyball, a winter season of basketball, bowling, gymnastics, hockey and wrestling and a spring season of cross country, football, lacrosse and soccer.
