2020 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Something I thought about recently as well. Could we have an XFL bubble of draft eligible CFB players this Fall?

i’ve had this thought as well. Could this be the end of college football as we know it? The XFL could just be the minor league to the NFL. The NCAA Is a disgrace and The Rock could jump on this opportunity.

Appalling.

I guess I'm not seeing what is so appalling here.

There was a very rapidly moving situation. The rates of infection have been all over the place the last two months, There's new data coming in all the time regarding short and long term risks, mortality rates, etc.. And in the meantime, the schedule for the fall term/season was barrelling down full speed on the schools. You also had players recently making demands that the schools may have been unable/unwilling to meet.

This had to be a difficult decision, made even more difficult because all the different schools had to cast votes, rather than one appointed person free to make a decision whenever he/she made up their mind. There were probably heated debates not only among schools, but within schools as well.

Must have been like herding cats.

I wonder if the big 10 will facilitate teams who want to plays to join another conference temporarily. My guess is there will be universities in the ACC, Big 12, and less likely but possible SEC who don't want to play. Maybe there can be two temporary super conferences for the fall.

Dunno what keeps Justin Fields here if the SEC/ACC play, if he has aspirations of being a top 10 pick next year.

If those conferences play, and nothing terrible happens, this could set the Big Ten back for years and years and years. THey'll lose players in the transfer portal, they'll lose revenue, they'll lose recruits.

I'm sure they are on their knees praying the SEC/ACC/Big 12 follow them.

It goes both ways. If those leagues play and something terrible happens, well then the BIG 10 and other institutions look great in comparison and show that they care more about their students-athletes as people and not just a way to make money. No clue on how it plays out yet. I think the rest of the conferences inevitably cancel, if not before the season then after the 1st game.

I'd be curious as to which teams voted to cancel/move to spring, and which voted to play. I know reports yesterday said it was 12-2, with Nebraska and Iowa voting to play. If that is accurate, then I wouldn't expect the schools that voted to cancel the season to play in the SEC or something this season.

It would be interesting to see. As much as the ACC is saying they will play, it could be the same situation as with the Big 10. If their university presidents take over the talks, my guess is more will side to not play than to play. It seems like the big 12 is very much split on playing.

Ultimately, the decisions will be made by the University Presidents or perhaps even Boards of Trustees, not by the coaches or AD's. The tails aren't going to wag the dogs. Except perhaps in the SEC. :chuckle:

I’d have to imagine none of this will matter once students return to campus, classes start, and so do the inevitable off campus parties.

If we’re seeing professional athletes going out and breaking protocols, why are we expecting that college athletes won’t do the same? Kids are going to be kids, no matter what type of pledges or documents you have them sign.

Not to mention, student-athletes have to interact with the general population to go to class.
