2020 College Football Season/Playoff Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I won't complain because we have football back (at least for now).

I was hoping they'd scrap divisions this year, and then have a coach's vote for top 2 Big 10 teams for Big 10 title. It'd avoid a lot of confusion at end of year if teams are tied, or a team didn't get as many games in due to cancellations.

Keeping the divisions makes a lot of sense this year. Teams know the opposing locker rooms, which I think is actually important in helping teams adhere to the new protocols.

I don't see how tiebreakers will be complicated. Unless the 2 teams who are tied somehow had their head to head matchup cancelled, it's no different than a normal year. And if a team ends up missing a game, I think the likelyhood they win their division is slim.

When do you want the Michigan game to be?

It's less about the actual divisions and game schedule, and more about issues with games played.

What happens if a team only gets 5 games and goes 5-0, and another team happens to go 7-1? I can see a weird scenario at end of year......I personally would prefer something more common sense than trying to use strict rules that may not be easily applied to a pandemic season.

It's kind of in the same vein as the CFP....They've already stated they aren't going to hold a shortened season against Big 10. IMO, the Big 10 shouldn't hold the weirdness of this year, against teams trying to make the Big 10 championship. In a weird scenario where maybe a team only gets a few games (like say Ohio State only gets 4 games but they go 4-0) I think it'd be dumb to hold them out of the Big 10 championship because other teams didn't meet the threshold to play.

It's why I'm not a big fan of division standings for the year. I'd almost rather they use CFP rankings, or a coaches vote (although those can get ugly because of personal beefs/rivalries). I'd probably just use CFP rankings and say two highest rated Big 10 teams get awarded opportunity to play for Big 10 title this year.

I'd prefer it in middle of schedule, like game 5 or 6. Give each team enough time to build up to game, but would prefer it not be 1 week before Big 10 championship. For either team, I think that's really hard in this compact season, to ask them to come off that game, and then go play a Big 10 championship.

Geoff Schwartz saying Wyatt Davis is opting back in....great news.

When do you want the Michigan game to be?
7pm under the lights

1: Last game at night
2: Last game at night in Detroit if the Big Ten refuses to play it outside in the cold at night
3: First or Second game at night if OSU refuses to play it outside of Columbus and the Big Ten still says no cold night games.

Isn’t that kind of a big fucking deal? Sounds like Joe Milton gets to slide right in.

Milton was named starter a few weeks back, but should something happen to him, I think they're in really rough shape.

McCaffrey is now in transfer portal.

Milton has a lot of physical tools and McCaffrey was pretty terrible IMO. I think Michigan is making the right choice....

Several Michigan starters had also opted out, and not sure they intend to return. Nico Collins - WR (signed with Drew Rosenhaus), Ambry Thomas - CB (said he's focused on draft), and Christian Turner (sophomore who is voluntarily sitting out bc of Covid concerns), and tackle Jalen Mayfield (focused on draft) all opted out a while back.

It's pretty cool the Buckeyes at this point only have 1 guy out, and he may return. Damn it'd be nice if Wade decides to return.

6 of the 8 games will either be common opponents or a h2h. The chances that a team in the same division plays 3 less games than another is pretty minute.
A more likely scenario is a crossover game gets cancelled. In that case, you can just go by division record.

I am wondering if there might be an eligibility issue with Davis (and maybe Wade)

Day's exact quote on both of them was "so if they want to play, I believe 1000% they should be allowed the opportunity to play." Davis said, "I want to play this season for Ohio State and I am working now to make that a reality" (bolded emphasis mine)

I would've thought that if Davis wanted to re-join the team, he could just do so. But then why would he have to do any work? And why wouldn't he be allowed to?

Hopefully it's me reading too much into it.
