2020 College Football Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Oh there is no way in hell they are playing the spring.

Why in the world would players, especially those who could be top picks in the NFL draft, put their career on the line twice in a calendar year for nothing?
Well, the vast majority of college football players know they have no chance of being drafted next year, and an even larger number know they aren't first round locks.

So while 2-3 dozen of the biggest names might opt out, college football is much more than just those players. I'd guess nobody will have a problem fielding a team

I think alot of players will see it as an opportunity to secure their starting spot or move up the depth chart in the spring. I think teams will be more likely to use more of their depth just so they don't wear down their players. It might be a mix of spring practice and summer league in the NBA. Ohio States second teams has shown to keep putting up point on teams like Rutgers and Maryland in the past.

They'll play. The top teams may be bummed that some of their top players aren't playing, but for the rest of college football, it won't be much of a difference.

Like you said, in reality this isn't going to affect that many teams / players. I'd say if a guy feels he's a guaranteed 1st rounder he'll sit out. Maybe the same for 2nd, but there's a good chance some of those guys could play themselves into the 1st.

In terms of top players to sit out, I'd guess at most it'd be around 20-30 in total, and maybe some seniors and juniors just decide they don't want to play football anymore.

I think some rabid college football fans are so focused on the "NFL prep" aspect of college football, and the very top players, that they overlook that most of college football has absolutely nothing to do with that.

Here's something for thought...what the hell is the BCS going to do about all this if we have both fall football, and spring football? Crown two champions?

Right. There's only 224 players that get drafted in any given year, give-or-take a few depending on compensatory picks.

OSU, PSU, and UM combined account for more players than that on their roster.

I don't think we'll have to have the discussion. I've never believed colleges could successfully pull off a season this fall. Looking at what's happening on campus' prior to classes starting, it's only a matter of time before individual schools starts pulling out even if the season gets started.

I also can't see any way the BCS could justify asking schools to travel across the country to play in those games. Doesn't make a lot of sense.

I think they will, but I think they'll miss some games. Most likely, it will hit a team, run through most of them, and then the team will be able to finish the season. Essentially, the Clemson experience writ larger.

The BCS??? That entity hasn't existed since the 2013-2014 season.

There will likely be some type of bowl partnership with the Pac 12 including a Rose Bowl, but Big 10 and Pac 12 are left out of this years playoff.

The playoff will go forward with the top 4 teams of those conferences playing. So likely Clemson and 3 SEC teams.

Nah, Oklahoma will slide into that 4th spot only to be slaughtered by the #1 seed yet again.

Finally an opportunity to get an “all ESPN” Final 4. I think they’ll finally nail it....
Honestly, there was always a great chance of getting at least 3 "ESPN" teams in there this year...because it was pretty likely one of Georgia/Florida would finish the season as a 1 loss non-Champ.

But hell, if both those teams and Alabama all finish with 1 loss or less? You're probably right...
