2020 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The thing I worry about the most in this situation is Dorsey hasn't been great at assessing OLine talent since he's been here: Hubbard, Corbett, traded Zeitler, Kush, Lamm, etc. Tretter's been OK but there a point last year where that signing looked highly questionable at best and he was even getting publicly challenged by Dorsey.

KC had some solid moves at OL. Not trying to take credit from him, but with the Reid situation it's hard to know exactly how much of a hand Dorsey had in building the line.

We've made a heavy investment in the skill positions both in draft assets and actual dollars. The OL up to this point has pretty much been an afterthought. Need to throw at least one high pick at the line, if not both our 1st and 2nd in 2020.

Hubbard and Corbett are certanly fair critiques.

I don't necessarily agree with the rest. Lamm and Kush were both low dollar depth fillers, what exactly would you expect?. I think Kush has actually played fine, despite PFF hammering him for the Rams game. Dorsey didn't sign Tretter. Jury is still out on the Zeitler/Vernon trade

It has never made sense to me that a GM gets blamed for injuries. If people are uneasy that he reached on Corbett, that was a legitimate swing and miss. He reached and the low ceiling player didn't do much. Heck, blame him for not drafting ANY pure tackle if you want. I wanted Orlando Brown Jr instead of Corbett, but perhaps his dad's team was just the right fit to bring out his motivation.

But Lamm looked like a fine swing tackle for the price, then got hurt. Hubbard was a free agent as the team came off an 0-16 year, and then got hurt. Forbes looked like an improving depth guy who could play some emergency tackle and solid as a guard... Then got hurt. Kush was signed cheap to be depth, but has to start. McCray was a desperation trade, then got thrust into starting tackle. We don't really know what we have in Teller, because again they had a desperate trade after injuries looked like an issue.

It's only been two offseasons. His work on the whole has been masterful, but he skimped assets on starting level OL. Let's see what the roster looks like healthy.

Mock Draft 1.0

Mostly some guys to keep an eye on based on the current draft position.

1 (7) - Andrew Thomas - OT - Georgia - Everything you could want in a tackle prospect. Huge wingspan and size combined with tremendous coaching has put this dude well ahead of everyone else in this class. Footwork and punch are enough to handle whatever comes at him. He's truly tremendous, and even if we progress out of the Top 7, this guy is a trade-up option for me. He's +++ as a prospect.

2 (39) - Brycen Hopkins - TE - Purdue - The receiving TE who can become a consistent threat that opens things up on the outside. Good enough of an athlete to develop his blocking skills, but pairing him with Harris and Seals-Jones provides the present and future of this position.

3 (71) - Darrell Taylor - EDGE - Tennessee - Lost in a lost season on Rocky Top, Taylor is crazy athletic and can dip and rip well off the edge. Bendy and athletic is all I'm looking for, Tosh and this elite group of veteran EDGE players can help develop the rest.

4 (103) - K.J. Hamler - WR - Penn State - This is the Tyreek Hill/Julian Edelman type of player who can win from all over the field as a gadget player. Elite elite short area quickness and speed, a threat every time he touches it.

4 (121) - Isaiah Hodgins - WR - Oregon State - Big body frame and a threat as a back-shoulder player. 51 catchable passes, 51 receptions this year (33 first downs). Consistent target and a wide catch radius for Mayfield.

6 (183) - Damar Hamlin - S - Pitt - Kind of a utility DB, but I'd like to grow him into a CF-type safety that backs up Randall. He's got good length and range which I think would play well there.

7 (217) - Josh Uche - EDGE - Michigan - Incredibly productive year is likely to push him out of this round and up higher, but I'm using TDN's predictive board for now. Another athletic profile, with really good bend that has developed enough moves to be a situational speed rusher.

As the team currently stands, I'd lay out some specific needs as:

1. Franchise LT
2. WR (Higgins and Callaway on the outs)
3. TE
4. EDGE depth
5. Interior OL

Tretter was sashi

Andrew Thomas, the OT from Georgia, is probably the only prospect I'd consider moving up for at this stage. He's projects as a multi-time All-Pro for me. Everything you'd want at the position, and paired with Campen, would be a knockout selection.

Hell, we'll see where this team is at the end of the next four weeks. Might not have to go up that far.

I don't know if Andrew Thomas will be on the board where the Browns are picking. I don't have a crystal ball, but I believe Thomas will be the first non-QB off the board.

That said, every week Trey Adams looks healthy is a good week for the Browns. He looked stiff when he came back from a back surgery against Ohio State, bit his fluidity seems to be back this season. He is the physical prototype for a tackle.

Just below Adams, I have my eye on the other Pac 12 lineman worth a damn: Calvin Throckmorton. He reminds me of Jonah Williams last year because he is a legit road grader and accomplished pass protector, but has the length of a guard rather than an NFL tackle. Arm measurements will be important for him.

Yeah, that’s essentially Rashan Gary hype. Guy’s got a ways to go before he even cements himself as a first rounder.

LOLOLOL

Fucking idiot

So now that we are one game behind the Dolphins for first overall, who do we take at 1?

As horrendous as the Browns have looked, I still see them winning 4 of their remaining 8 games. That would put them at 6-10 and picking in the #9-13 range

It seems like Andrew Thomas still holds the #1 OT claim, but Tristan Wirfs from Iowa is coming for that spot

Andrew Thomas is the best left tackle in this draft.

Period. Full Stop. End.

His performance against UF was blissful to watch, and that defense has some dudes.

i take it he goes before the browns would have a chance to pick him (in the 10-15 range theortically)

I admire this level of optimism, but I'm not ready to give the Browns that much credit with regards to their future wins.

That said, I do think he'll be gone within the Top 5. So it remains to be seen.

I would say yes; however, in the past 3 years we have not seen an OT taken any higher than #9 in the draft. If you look beyond that, there was almost always a OT going in the Top 5.

However, the Bengals, Dolphins, Broncos, and Bucs will all likely be looking for a QB. Will be interesting to see how NFL scouts see Burrow after they've had time to digest his film. Could easily see Tua, Herbert, and Burrow gone in the Top 10

Chase Young, Jeffrey Okudah, Grant Delphit, and Jerry Jeudy are seen by most as sure things and the #1 player at their respective position. Young and Jeudy will surely go Top 10, Delphit may not because of his position, I imagine Okudah goes Top 10. Behind Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb is probably the best WR prospect since Amari Cooper in 2015.

Aside from OT, who is coming out that is a must take if available in the slot between #5-#10?
