2020 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Offensive tackles
1. *Jedrick Wills Jr., Alabama (6-5, 322, 5.28)
While most have Wirfs or Thomas as OT1, Wills is the best tackle prospect I have evaluated in this class. He is explosive through his hips with the wide, lower body movements to mirror in pass protection and the upper body power to steamroll defenders in the run game. While he needs some fine-tuning, Wills has all the talent and upside to be a top-five pick in this draft.

The addition of Wills does not rule out the possibility of trading for veteran Trent Williams. Cleveland needs to upgrade both tackle positions, and Williams may not command a first round pick.

17. Cleveland Browns: Austin Jackson, OT, USC
The Browns re-signed Greg Robinson to a one-year deal to play left tackle and right tackle Chris Hubbard has graded out as PFF’s 77-best (of 79) offensive tackle this season. A two-year starter at USC, Jackson has elite movement skills for the position and gives the Browns a long-term solution at left tackle.

I actually think drafting a LT, starting Lamm at RT and addressing other needs in the 2nd and 3rd rather than taking 2 OT's is my preferred avenue this off season.

Wouldn't mind if they could trade for William's and draft another tackle or two.

Penei Sewell won the Outland tonight. Not draft eligible until next year, but he’s the best OT regardless of class.

HoF potential.

I think I saw that this was Oregon's first ever Outland winner? That's absolutely nuts.

I have to imagine that the Browns will look at drafting a QB in the mid-rounds. Is there anyone that projects to be a solid backup right when drafted? I.E., someone who is not raw, but lacks the physical tools to last a long time in the NFL?

I think Shea Patterson is a nice fit for the type of guy you describe. Seems like someone that can be in the league for a very long time, as a Bridgewater type that lacks the plus tools of an NFL starter but can do his job if needed.

The Browns should tank for two reasons:

1) So Freddie gets fired, and
2) Let's crack the Top Ten in the Draft.

Any decent trade-down scenarios where they can still snag a top OT with picks in the teens and 20s?

Part II

Who’s the best G in this class? Is he worth picking in the top 15? If he’s not then I’d be okay with drafting the best Safety with our first pick and a Guard with our second pick.

The biggest hole on this defense is at Safety. We need pass rushers and linebackers for depth. We need a Safety to be competitive. We need a thumper and a center fielder. Of course if Wilks is gone then that might change the dynamic of the defense. One of the reasons why I don’t like scheme dependent coaches who can’t adapt to their talent. When you move on from those type of coaches you create more holes. Especially on defense.

Given the high success rate that offensive linemen drafted in the first or second round have to be an above league average starter, do you think it's absolutely necessary that the Browns draft a linemen with their first pick, considering its state? Or could there be someone else, say a Xavier McKinney or Dylan Moses(if healthy), that could help the defense more than an offensive lineman would help the offense? Working under the assumption the pick falls somewhere between 14-20.

Just as a general philosophy, I will NEVER promote the idea of forcing a team to take one specific position at the top of the draft.

Everybody sees the whole of the offensive line as a problem area right now, and while I do think there are a number of OT prospects who comprise a pretty good class with plenty of 1st round talent, I definitely agree that other positions could be in play in the first round.

A deep OT class and plenty of potential free agents makes everything fair game at this point.

With the success of L. Jackson so far is there anyone in college that could be close to him?

Lets say Jackson does this again next year. Do you think mobility of QBs coming out will affect their draft position more? Example is Fields and Lawrence. You have talked already how Fields needs to work on his throwing motion and Lawrence is more polished. Could Fields mobility push him in front of Lawrence??

Can ur rank or point out the players in the Final 4 who will be drafted?

There is nobody in college even close to Lamar Jackson right now, he's a truly unique talent with the combo of pass/run skills that we have simply not seen in this league to date.

He's a more advanced version of Robert Griffin, but with Vick-esque elusiveness that makes him such a problem in space.

I think Fields is an OK prospect right now, he's got a LONG way to go for me to consider him a top QB prospect or someone who I think could be plug and play in any NFL system. We've seen Haskins struggles this season coming from the similar system, Fields has similar struggles under pressure and making multiple reads. He's definitely in the right system to keep improving, but he and his QB coach need this off-season to clean up his mechanics and further refine his skill-set. Will wait and see what comes out in 2020.

Burrow or Lawrence?

I think Joe Burrow is going to be so good at the next level. Really fucking sucks that will likely be in Cincinnati.

Burrow, right now.

Better footwork, better step through skills in traffic. Keeps his eyes down the field, understands how to avoid pressure and get his feet re-set.

Lawrence struggles a bit with the footwork part, he tends to over-extend himself and get his feet too parallel in chaos. Something that I think OSU can take advantage of in their matchup, if they're able to generate pressure.

Lawrence, like Fields, is a younger prospect with ample time to improve. Joe Burrow is nearly three full years older than Lawrence, so right now I'm going to ride with Burrow, but Lawrence has the higher ceiling without question IMO.

This draft is so deep in tackles, I feel confident that they will be able to address their biggest need.

@AZ_ I haven't watched too many FS prospects. Any names?

Georgia T Andrew Thomas declared for the 2020 NFL Draft.
Thomas (6'5/320) is a plug-and-play tackle who could start as a rookie with his future NFL team. The All-American junior plays with a beautiful blend of athleticism, strength and technique. In his mock draft released this week, ESPN's Todd McShay had Thomas coming off the board with the No. 7 overall pick to the Jets (draft order still not concretely set, of course). Thomas has the talent and upside to push for a top-five selection if a pro team falls in love with him.

Other than Delpit, its not that great. Couple of guys I like:

Ashtyn Davis - Cal
Richard LeCounte - Georgia
Damar Hamlin - Pitt
Kyle Duggar - Lenior-Rhyne
Shaun Wade - OSU (could figure at either CB/S)
Julian Blackmon -Utah

Want to see these guys workout, tackling is an issue across the board in this class.
