2020 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
My guess is the Browns' biggest positions of need will be linebacker (losing Schobert and Kirksey plus it is already a position of need), safety (already one), TE (we will need at least a backup to Njoku, but, I like the idea of having two anyways), and receiver (no more Higgins).

Are there any prospects that will be there in the late teens or early 20s that look to be future impact players at those positions?

One early thing that’s going to annoy me is the hype surrounding Tua.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he’s going ahead of wherever Cleveland is picking, one more player who will drop to them.

But Tua is one of the more overhyped QB prospects to come through in quite some time, IMO.

There are probably 5-6 Alabama offensive players who I would draft right now before him.

We will likely need a tackle on both sides of the ball next year. I want a crazy disruptive DT next year, but since we will be drafting 30+, it’s going to be hard to get the can’t-miss stud.

Isn't Trevor Lawrence also just an infinitely better prospect the following year?

Honestly, I do not watch enough college football before draft season to know too much, but I'm not sure Tua or Herbert are as elite of prospects as people suggest.

Though, I also think Will Grier will have a nice NFL career and basically every NFL team disagrees, so I probably have no idea what I'm talking about. I just love his short-to-intermediate field accuracy. I know he has inconsistent arm strength, played in an unconventional offense, and needs to improve his mechanics in the pocket, but still, I imagine he'll have a long career as a spot-starter/backup.

Tua, Herbert and Fromm will be first rounders. You’ll probably get 1-2 more guys who will come out of nowhere like Haskins and Kyler as well. Only helps the Browns.

Yes, thank you.

I watch him and I cringe at the idea he’s a franchise changing quarterback.

I just don't see it with Fromm? Granted he has a ton of experience and pretty good stats and all of those disclaimers, but he strikes me as a bit of a college gamer who is too physically limited to be good in the NFL?

I actually think Fromm is the best of the bunch. Hes accurate and smart despite having not the strongest of arms. What's going to limit him is that UGA doesn't throw hardly ever.

Tua will get the hype but hes not the best prospect. But between him playing at Bama, and getting to throw to maybe one of the best WR prospects in the past 5 years in Jeudy, hes going to get that type of hype.

I'm not sure what to make of Herbert. This is going to sound dumb; but I think hes just too damn tall. He over strides and that forces accuracy problems. Same thing happened with similar guys like Lynch, Osweiler and others. Maybe he can turn it around and become that guy. If he does improve his accuracy, he has amazing tools and could be the best QB in the draft.

I'm also really excited to watch Colorado this year. Their QB, Montez, I think has a chance to be a real good senior QB, and they have a WR that's definitely going first round. If his was any other year, Sheanualt would have been WR1 easy, but Jeudy is the fucking man.

Herbert seems like an interesting scheme fit in the mold of Nick Foles.

Tall enough to thrive on play action, watching the defensive movement toward the run and exploit matchups in an RPO scheme where he thrived in Philadelphia.

He’s not a transcendent QB by any means, all of these guys play like second or third round QBs.

I would agree with that. He would really thrive in that offense, especially as a backup to Wentz as I think they are pretty similar in talent.

I think most of these guys are 2nd round guys who will get boosted to the 1st round because of positional value. That doesn't mean they are bad, there are a lot of quality QB prospects. But 2018 was superior as far as actual talent.

2021 is going to be the next super class. Lawerence and Fields could be the next Mayfield and Darnold class.

If you're bad enough to be in the mix for Fromm or Herbert at the top of the 2020 draft, at that point, I'd rather tank another year. Cut or trade some expensive veterans for any draft capital you can, roll over a ton of cap, and go for Trevor Lawrence. Sashi the hell out of it for a single year.

Edit. If Triplethreat disagrees with me, then I know I'm right.

Bet you said the same thing about Baker Mayfield a year before getting to the draft.

Actually. You were saying the same shit about Baker Mayfield a week before the draft.

Actually, I wasn't. You really need to learn to read and think clearly if you're going to post on a forum with the frequency that you do. It could almost be labeled as trolling.

I liked Baker Mayfield. I posted as much frequently throughout the collegiate season and during the CFP. I had a lot of positives to say regarding him. Admittedly, I thought Sam Darnold was going to end up better because of his tools and the things he was being asked to do in the USC offense.

All of these players were projections. My fear with Baker wasn't his talent--it was that he would have to adjust from a spread system built on misdirection against Big 12 defenses. As accurate as he was, he was throwing to wide open receivers. I had no idea how much he was tasked with setting protections. No idea how he'd adapt to being under center as a 6'0 QB. Nor did you or anyone else--because there isn't a way to know if we aren't in the meeting rooms. It's not like I was adverse to taking him at all--I drafted him for the Dophins in the 2018 RCF Mock for crying out loud.

There was hope that he'd be able to acclimate given his rumored football IQ. However, there was still a lot to project. To his credit, he did it at a rate that no other quarterback has ever done from a college spread.

You always like to say you were right on a given player. However, like Hue Jackson, if you simply hype everyone with reckless abandon based on nothing other than hype and what the television tells you, this is where you end up.

Now, this is the 2020 prospect thread. I highly suggest we move back to discussing 2020 prospects rather than our prized young QB.

Calling Fromm and the QB’s next year essentially bad QB’s before they even set foot on the field for this year is naive as hell.

Once again. Not one person thought Mayfield would be a great QB the year before he came out. And MOST thought he was going to be shit the year he did come out..

So my stance stands as is. You don’t know until 1) Their final college year so you can accurately gauge them and 2) until you see them on the NFL field...

Fromm could be the next great thing for all we know.
