2020 Final Series Pirates @ Indians, Sep. 25-27

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
he, moss and now maybe Civale will compete for the coveted Pluto spot next spring

And Quantrill. And McKenzie.

Bieber, Plesac and Carrasco are the only guys who should have spots guaranteed heading into next year.

The last two spots should be up for grabs.

So does tonight lock us into a trip to the twin cities absent us winning and the Sox losing tomorrow?

Not yet. Both Oakland and Chicago have the tiebreaker on Minnesota, so they're both still alive for the 2 seed heading into tomorrow.

The Indians could still play at the Twins, A's or White Sox in a 2/7 matchup or host the Yankees or Blue Jays in a 4/5 matchup.

We still can’t hit, and Civale still can’t pitch. In case we thought all our problems were behind us.

That's how it looks. The Cubs have clinched the Central so they'll probably trot out a bunch of reserves tomorrow.

The Pirates put on an opposite field hitting clinic. Two oppo home runs. Three oppo doubles by the amazing rookie Hayes. It looked like the Pirates studied the video of Civale pitching that complete game against them earlier this year and decided to wait on his pitches and take them the other way. It worked beautifully. Part of it was that Civale had nothing except a curve that was working, but I love that opposite field approach.

Lindor with another boneheaded baserunning blonder on top of the one he had last night. This one didn't affect the game obviously but enough is enough. This team doesn't generate many base runners so we can't afford to keep getting picked off and thrown out due to overaggressive or stupid base running. You don't try to stretch a single into a double when you're down 5-0 with no outs.

Maybe we win tomorrow and the White Sox lose but my bet is on having to play the Twins in their house to start the playoffs. That will be quite a challenge.

Looking at the standings and scenarios, the only two teams locked into their seeds are the Rays at 1 and the Astros at 6.

Every other spot is still up for grabs in terms of seeding.

The Twins can be 2, 3 or 4.
The White Sox can be 2, 3, 4 or 7.
The A's can be 2 or 3.
The Indians can be 4 or 7.
The Yankees can be 5 or 8.
The Blue Jays can be 5 or 8.

Indians need a win tomorrow.

And hope whatever else happens the indians arent playing the twins in the playoffs

I think we are #7, no matter what, now. Pray for the ChiSox to get the second seed.

Twins are the 3 seed with a loss, an A's win and a White Sox loss.
Twins are the 4 seed with a loss and a White Sox win.

A's are the 2 seed with a win, a Twins loss and a White Sox loss.
A's are the 2 seed with a win, Twins loss and White Sox win.
A's are the 3 seed with a Twins win.

White Sox are the 2 seed with a win, a Twins loss and an A's loss.
White Sox are the 3 seed with a win, a Twins loss and an A's win.
White Sox are the 4 seed with a win and a Twins win.
White Sox are the 4 seed with a loss and an Indians loss
White Sox are the 7 seed with a loss and an Indians win.

Indians are the 4 seed with a win and a White Sox loss.
Indians are the 7 seed with a loss OR a White Sox win.

Astros - Locked into 6 seed

Yankees are the 5 seed with a win.
Yankees are the 5 seed with a loss and a Blue Jays loss.
Yankees are the 8 seed with a loss and a Blue Jays win.

Blue Jays are the 5 seed with a win and a Yankees loss.
Blue Jays are the 8 seed with a loss.
Blue Jays are the 8 seed with a win and a Yankees win.

Oakland has the tiebreaker on Minnesota and Chicago.
Chicago has the tiebreaker on Minnesota.
Toronto has the tiebreaker on New York.
Cleveland has the tiebreaker on Chicago.

The Cubs are locked into the #4 seed and today's game is meaningless so I assume they will send out a bunch of reserves to play the White Sox. OTOH, the N.L. wild card series don't start until Wednesday so they may not want to give their starters three days off. My guess is they play their subs and the White Sox kick their butts.

If the Sox win I think the best case scenario for the Tribe is if the A's and Twins lose so the Sox get the 2nd seed. Otherwise it's the Twins or A's on the road which are not good scenarios. But with Bieber, Plesac, and Carrasco going we have a chance against anybody if those guys are on top of their games.

I can't figure out whether to watch the Indians or Browns this afternoon. The problem is that both games will show scores of the other games across the bottom every five minutes or so and I have to keep remembering to look away.
