2020 Game #4 | #3 Ohio State vs. #9 Indiana | November 21st, 2020 @ 12 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I mean maybe Indiana is really good and this win was solid.

But that is BY FAR the best their offense looked all season and I don't think that's a coincidence.

Good news is nobody has a good defense this year. Bama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Florida have all been torched on a pretty regular basis.

As long as this game was an aberration for Fields (I firmly believe it was), this offense will give us a chance against anyone.

With that said, this defense is sad. The line gets no pressure and the secondary looks hopeless. They got a few more games to figure it out, but I don't feel good about it.

Same thing I said after PSU game, this isn’t a championship defense. The offense is championship caliber assuming Fields protects the ball, but there isn’t much margin for error for him to have an off game.

The secondary Is bad. Plain and simple. Not having a #1 overall caliber lineman to pressure the QB routinely is exposing it hardcore. A couple of the huge plays were clearly guys not being on the same page, but this doesn’t look like the same speed and coverage ability we have come to expect.

THat was probably one of the worst called gamed by Day.

Which is weird considering the offense racked up a ton of yards.

But man, if they're gonna send 2 and 3 blitzers every play why not run a screen or two?

Yeah, normally Day is excellent at making adjustments in-game. I was yelling for a screen all game. We got 2 right before the half and both got first downs. I don't understand why we didn't run more or have the RB stay & protect more.

Then he decides to kick a 44 yard FG with an unknown kicker instead of punting...then passes up on a 25 yard FG that would ice the game.

Just an overall strange game, top to bottom.

Lol I read this absolutely insane comment on 11 warriors.

"Oh boy -- we have an Urban 2.0 on our hands. Extremely disappointed that he isn't being more critical about his secondary. No personnel changes? ARE YOU CRAZY? Anyone on the bench couldn't be worse than Hooker. "

Oh no, not Urban 2.0! What would we ever do if we had a second version of one of the five or six greatest college football coaches of all time?

Ohio State fans are extremely spoiled with the quality of coaching we've had.

It's hard to beat Tressel to Urban to Ryan Day.

Even the very best programs don't usually manage to hit three straight coaches in a row like this.

Yeah, I know most people don't take it for granted (given we are also fans of Ohio pro sports teams...) but there are definitely some idiots out there. It's not always going to be this good...

Meyer's recruiting saved his otherwise dogshit playcalling abilities.

His incredible recruiting abilities in those powerhouse programs like Bowling Green and Utah!

The idea that Urban Meyer, a man who basically invented the spread option, couldn't call plays was always....odd.

If Urban had one fault, it was that he never really adjusted from his power spread that dominated from the early 2000s-2015.

Of course, he was still better than 99.9% of coaches even after 2015.

But, the game was starting to pass him by just a little bit. OSU wasn't really a true National title contender his last few years. His retirement came at a great time for both him and OSU. He's killing it on TV and OSU is in a better place than when he left it.

But, yeah...as we can see even here, we are definitely spoiled.

I don't know man I thought he did a great job with the Haskins team. The defense was hte issue that year. Couldn't stop a paper bag from scoring.

As bad as we look right now, it was worse then.

Haskins was not the type of QB he preferred andh e had them zooming by the end of the year.

I think that offense was heavily influenced by Day, especially once Urban got suspended.

I mean, when Urban came back Haskins was running read options... :chuckle:

I'm with you on the defense, though. Worst in school history, by far. Even worse than 2013.

That 2018 team was definitely great, undoubtedly the #3 team in the country. Would have liked to see them get a shot at Bama or Clemson, but with that defense it would have been extremely tough to beat either of those teams. It felt like from 2016-2018 we were just a notch below those two teams, which is no longer the case.
