2020 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So I thought I would just look to see who the Indians selected for Arizona to see who is included and who is not according to FanGraph top 54 prospects to see if there is any insights…. The names on list are from FanGraph (not Arizona list).

Not much to see here as we know we don’t have many near ready prospects (2-3 years out). The other invitee is Yainer Diaz has contact issues per FanGraph and would appear on some people’s near top-50 list.

Outfielders

This is probably the most interesting as there were significant additions and names left off.

Johnson was left off due to being on the 40 man already. Planez was probably left off due to being a Valenzuela kid unable to get out for now (but other Valenzuela kids are in Arizona). They added Will Brennan and Ka’ai Tom who were not on the Lake County Taxi Squad for a reason … Yet, leaving off Rodriquez and Holmes says a lot when Indians need outfields coming up the system (but they aren’t highly thought of).

The only significant person left off other than Bradley being on the 40 man is Nova (being 52nd) and too many infielders already. Note, Jones is added to the list as he is not yet on the 40-man. Also note the Valenzuela kids are invited here (so why is Planez off?). A few extras were added in Lara, Naranjo and Pestrano.

Here the list seems to have some common themes…. The relief pitchers in Lake County taxi squad were not added (I assume they got their pitch count for year up already) in Gose, Sandlin and Scott, while starters of Morgan Hankins and Espino (sim games only) were brought down to Arizona too. Other high-level relievers who could have been added like Martinez, Dowdy, Siri and Robinson (at #47) were left off. Some additions to Arizona were Herrin, Curry, McCarthy (SP), McCarty, Marman, Janczak and Mikolajchak (at #49).

Thus, overall, you could have taken FanGraph top 52 list and got relatively close to the Arizona list … not bad for comparing how Indians evaluate talent and FanGraphs … especially in deep system.

Bracho was listed in left field?

I know, I was going to mention that is what he is listed in per FanGraph (where I copied lists from) but I listed him with the infielders per Indians Arizona roster .. forgot to highlight it (but kept it as is knowing it was a discussion point).

Thanks for doing this, however, it's unclear to me how to read these lists and reconcile them with the comments. When you say someone is included or not included and I see them on the list I really don't know what the list is or exactly which players are in Arizona.

Sorry ... used Fangraph list just to show in last 3 columns their top 100 mlb overall rank, fangraph indian prospect rank and eta ... I then compared it (in the response) to Arizona list (on my ipad) to get non-top 53 ranked players like Diaz and Lara added and players left off Arizona list like taxi squad relievers, Palanz and Nova....

Usually the lists weren't that different till I got to pitchers (at the end) as we have many prospects on 40 man not allowed in Arizona like Mejia, Nelson, Hentges, McK... and thus got confusing. Sorry for that as i did say right before catcher comoarison .... "The names on list are from FanGraph (not Arizona list)."

Part of me is thinking thats an error on their part. I mean it happens that way.

Now that list of INFs is huge, some of them eventually will have to move to the OF. Who would you say are the weaker fielders of the bunch, but have decent to good speed?

hey daddywags. driving around yday. pulled up to a traffic light behind a car. license plate on the car was "MRS WAGS" - is she yours?

Haha! Nope. But whoever she is I bet she has good taste!

Heard the Indians pitching has been so dominant that there have been multiple times where certain outfielders go the entire game without touching the ball.

Clase has pitched twice now....

How has he looked?

How has he looked?
can he hit? can he pee clean?
-
btw re the Arizona league and re Nolan Jones - the only place jones hasn't hit was in the zone league last season - struck out in 45% of his ABs and walks were down a hair - also, iirc he hurt his thumb which ended his season there - wonder if the thumb is good and offense was an aberration - and if the fo is concerned about either
