2020 MLB Draft: Barebones edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Baseball America didn't have a write up on Hawaii's Cade Smith although I did find out there is a Cade Smith from Miss St.

I was catching up on some podcasts in the past 24 hours... Listening to the MLB Pipeline pod, both Jim Callis & Johnathon Mayo indicated the Tribe were among the better drafts (ie top 6) this year.

We can hope that turns out to be true..

Has the Tribe signed any of their 2020 draft picks?

They seem to like announcing them all at once...hopeful (and likely) that they will get them all into the fold.

Perhaps they’ll invite Burns to camp at Eastlake?

Doubt it... Once your part of the 60 player pool there are few ways out of it and fewer that dont expose a player to waivers for another club to pick up the player.

Although there have been a few rumors/ reports on some 2020 Tribe draftees being added to the pool, the report that accompanied the signing of Burns also debunked the adding of Burns to the 60 man pool..

If I can find that report again, I will edit in that link....
Found the report link: https://indiansbaseballinsider.com/...ng-update-36th-overall-pick-rhp-tanner-burns/

Here is part I was referencing:
"According to Cleveland.com’s Joe Noga, the club will not add Burns to the 60-man roster. The Indians roster currently sits at 58 with the flexibility to make a few additions."

I also doubt they will invite one of the draftees to the 60 man. Since they left two open spots, my guess is they will go get a couple veterans without jobs for depth reasons if they get anyone for it.

I could see merit in one of the pitchers we drafted getting added since they are older and more MLB ready in a sense, but i just dont see that happening.

Jaime Arias, LHP, Fresno State

Joe Donovan, C, Michigan

I would say, coming out of the draft, he is a comparable to Roberto Perez in my mind.

Alonzo Richardson, INF, Helix (CA) HS

Cade Smith, RHP, Hawaii

Those are the four undrafted free agents we signed. The two pitchers choose Cleveland cause of their developmental program. None of them were ranked high so I dont have at on any of them. If anyone wants to do more details for everyone that would be cool.

We brought in a total of 10 players, 5 pitchers, 3 SS, a C and an OF. All the pitchers had college experience and solid command. The SS and OF were high schoolers and the C has college experience.

I struggle with the notion that Tanner Burns or Logan Allen #2 (the recent draft pick) being more MLB ready over others already in the farm system like Adam Scott/ Luis Oviedo (R5 decision looming)/ Robert Broom.

Cases could also be made for Hunter Gaddis and a few other guys on the pitching side being added to the pool...

There are also a handful of position players in the system I wish could be added in order to receive organized practice/ instruction during this time (Alexi Planez/ Brayan Rocchio/ Raynel Delgado/ Richard Palacios/ Jose Fermin)..

I didnt mean they were like the most MLB ready available pitchers, but they are older and have solid command, so in a sense of the "draft class" they are the most MLB ready, not of everyone available.

I agree with you in the fact there is more MLB ready pitchers available in the system who should get on the 60 man if anyone does from the organization. I just feel personally, if we fill these two spots, it will be from outside of the organization, otherwise what would be the point of adding them now after summer training/spring training 2.0 has ended? I think we are gonna go after experience now rather than youth.
