2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Can he work on the Cavs?
Looks like he'd work anywhere. I like what I saw there. Can we trade back and get him and some other benefit too?
If Windler works out like we hope we can forget the other wing options no?

He looks really good, somebody is going to get a steal.

If you go by the numbers, he is the guy IMO. He's gonna be one of the top 3 guys from the draft. Very good defense, very good playmaking, above average size for position, very good shooter from deep and the line, all the intangibles with a high IQ. Perfectly good athleticism. Knock is he doesn't attack enough and he is too light, but that wouldn't matter on this team.

If Darius isn't exactly what they have hyped him to be, meaning star upside, not taking Haliburton as the perfect guy to pair with Sexton is going to be one of those derail the rebuild mistakes.

When I really think about it, I think he is the most likely star from this draft. A guy with tools like Wiseman, Ball or Edwards can definitely be the best player if they turn out, but Haliburton is going to kill it in the NBA I am pretty sure.

I feel like we already know that Garland and Sexton most likely won't work together as a pairing. I feel like passing on Haliburton if they believe he is a good pairing with Sexton and the best player available would be a mistake just because we have Garland in the roster. Sexton is a starter for us and out of the young players we have he is the most proven. Garland is either going to develop into a starter and we will have to make a decision to press forward with having disadvantage on defense constantly or trade him. If he doesn't develop into a true starter, we might kick ourselves for passing up on what could be a perfect pairing for Sexton.

I wouldn't see it as a bad problem to have Sexton, Garland, and Haliburton all work out to then have to trade one. Packages for a legit star always have young players and draft picks. You need both to make the trade when they come along.

I think he's going to be good, but I don't know how much we want to continue to invest in guards. He can work, but the Cavs are going to have to get creative. Whether that's with trades or lineups, I don't know, we don't really know what we have with Garland. It would just be awkward.

Bolmaro showcased some of his strengths yesterday, with career highs in assists (10) and steals (3) in Barca's blowout win. A handful of prospects are engaged in some last-minute resume building (I previously mentioned Jokubaitis) and Bolmaro is arguably the highest profile player in that group. Needs to add muscle and work on his scoring game, but could be a nice fit on the Cavs as a point forward type with potential to guard multiple positions.

There are some interesting international prospects this time. I like Bolmaro a lot.
Was reading about Amar Sylla - dude apparently has Siakam frame and plays like him, too.

Not just the international ones, there are some excellent college players outside the top-10 of every mock draft. I think players like Aaron Nesmith, Desmond Bane, Saddiq Bey, and Killian Tillie can be really good in NBA given the right opportunity.

Sylla's a good athlete, but probably the most raw offensive prospect in the draft. 13 points per 40 on 44% true shooting last year, which is amazingly bad given the low level of competition and the fact that most of his makes were simply dunks. Some team may pick him up in the late 2nd round and see how he develops in Europe, but he seems like a pretty low-percentage gamble to me.

Finished the last of my writeups, on the less-highly-regarded PGs and small combo guards. A lot of solid options, but no one really stood out to me as an obvious "super sleeper" here.

Ashton Hagans

Perimeter offense: 3/10

A reluctant shooter, and for good reason as he connected at just 26%. Solid free throw shooting suggests he has some potential to at least make wide-open 3's with practice.

Interior offense: 2/10

Good enough athlete to get downhill, but struggled to finish at the rim. Just doesn't have great scoring touch overall. Drew fouls at a decent rate, but was a surprisingly poor offensive rebounder.

Team offense: 7/10

Not an outlier here, but did a more than respectable job running a Kentucky offense full of raw but talented players. Has his work cut out for him as he doesn't have a ton of scoring gravity himself, but makes it work.

Perimeter defense: 9/10

His calling card. Ideal frame to defend the guard positions, plays with great intensity, and sticks to his man like glue. Creates plenty of steals.

Interior defense: 2/10

Competitive here too, but as on offense, athleticism doesn't manifest in the paint as often as you'd hope. Just an okay rebounder, and not a shot blocker at all.

Team defense: 5/10

A solid team defender, but doesn't shine like he does in 1-on-1 situations, and not a steady leader like he is on offense. Covers ground well and shows excellent effort, but can ball watch or gamble too much when he should be focused on sticking to shooters.

Overall: 28/60
I think Hagans is an interesting prospect. He always stood out to me when I watched UK, I wouldn't be surprised to see him develop into a good rotation player. He's really good defensively imo and kind of crafty offensively, seems like he understands the game really well. If he becomes a better shooter, he'll have a great chance to play in the league for a long time. Doubt he's in play for the Cavs though, unless he goes undrafted.

Yeah, completely agree. I buy his defense, and while he doesn't have the natural touch some guys have on offense, he seems like a hard worker who really understands the game. Could go undrafted just because this draft is so deep at PG, in which case he'd be a really nice two-way contract guy.

Also noticed that he said he has a 7'2.5" wingspan in that video. That's 2" longer than he measured last summer. He looks jacked. Maybe the most NBA-ready center in the draft?

Certainly doesn't seem to mind contact, foot work seems solid. How does he grade on the defensive front?
