2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Zeke Nnaji to the Nuggets is the first surprise of the night. Might be a Jerami Grant replacement.

Out of the guys left for UDFA's.....

Nate Hinton
Killian Tillie
Ty-Shon Alexander

Those are the 3 names that stand out analytically.

Was a brutal run on value guys to end that draft, when it initially looked like there would be some really talented UDFA types.

I think the second round is going to produce a lot of guys who stick this year.

I wonder if there was something in the medical record that caused Tillie to tumble so far.

Poor athletic testing was part of it. Some of the worst agility and speed metrics at the combine. The tape confirms this. A very grounded game. muscular bulky build already. Not long. Offensively limited. Only 6’7 without shoes

Muscular? Not even...220 pounds at 12.4% bodyfat. He's completely out of shape.

Here is my bow on 2020. Hayes and Deni are missing, as I don't have possession based data on them.

For better or worse, my model says we picked one of the lottery guys who is a washout candidate.

I tend to see why we drafted Okoro but from an analytical impact standpoint, he lands in a very nervy range.

I'm hoping he pans out because if he doesn't, we are going to be in a pretty dark place rebuild wise.

Do you have more of that?
How's Myles Turner with more power and bully mentality as Jalen Smith comparison?

My issue with Okoro is that I believe his athleticism is overblown. I think it's more strength and balance than explosiveness. If (in my mind) he had more raw athleticism than I would have a different opinion.

Jalen was one of the guys I had mentioned a lot earlier in the year, where I generally just didn't understand why he lacked draft juice. He produced, was long, athletic and just a really modern basketball big. I think he will be a lot better than most expect.

Related to Smith, People laughed at the Cam Johnson pick last year but he had a good analytical profile (which I noted at the time) and the Suns clearly have bought in to the bucketing strategy for profiling prospects. A year later, Cam looks like he has a chance to be one of the best 5-6 guys in that draft class, which is a huge win if you are picking 11th. We'll see how it continues to shake out.

With Okoro, it is tough. Laterally, I think he is athletic but I do agree that his vertical athleticism is largely dependent on momentum. He's not a guy who is really springy without gather and in traffic, his athleticism seems to come and go.

My biggest problem with him is he just doesn't exhibit any shooting ability off the move, with or without the ball and his efficiency is largely predicated on attacking the basket. It is pretty obvious he will just be left open and played off of immediately and what is his counter to that?

To me, too many things have to go right for him to be a plus offensive player and at #5, it is just a tough sell for me. I like him more than the data I see says I should but I'm still really luke warm on his NBA prospects as an effective two way player.

CONCESSION SPEECH

Thank you so much.

Well, here's the way I see it. Here's the way we see it and the Cavs family should see it -- that the front office has spoken and we respect the majesty of the system. I just hypothetically called Isaac Okoro and offered my congratulations. He did perform well at the workout and the interview. I wish him well in the Cavs uniform.

And to all who wanted to see Deni Avdija, or Tyrese Haliburton, or someone else, thank you for your support and interest.

Now I ask that we stand behind our rookie and regardless of our differences, everyone in the Cavs family share the same purpose: To make this, the world's greatest team, with better defence and better offence and to guarantee every supporter the worth of their efforts.

And I would like to thank so many of you who have liked the comments posted by me to improve the Cavs and help change the direction towards a better one.

What is the measurement here? Okoro's team had a 15 point differential against opponents when he was on the floor, and they were dead even with him off. What does that mean? That he is likely to bust?

Anthony Edwards is less likely to bust because his team had a worse record and he got shut down by Okoro in the head to heat they played against each other? Auburn lost the game to Georgia Okoro didn't play in.

Okoro has a net rating of 15 while Edwards has a net rating of -2.

Do you take wins and losses into account? Seems important.
