2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Oh okay. We missed out on Bol Bol though.

I thought we should have used one of those later picks on him. I was shocked he lasted until the 2nd round. Denver is pretty smart to go best talent available, even if hurt with their later picks especially as a contenderish team, if you get a real star out of that, it is amazing for the long term outlook of the team.

Friedrich Von Schlegel once said, "A historian is a prophet looking backwards."

Let's not mistake hindsight for some kind of sixth sense. A few, including me, were intrigued by Bol Bol throughout the process bit nobody banged their fists on tables for him. I am glad he approached his weaknesses with humility and tightened up his footwork.

Not trying to be a dick about it. Draft prospects are just harder to predict than ever these days. I was not a Kevin Porter Jr. supporter at all in the draft process, and he has done a great job proving me wrong.

Bol Bol wasn't knocked for his lack of talent though. Everyone knew he was a weird very talented player. I think him dropping to the 2nd round had a lot of us Questioning how bad his health really was, and what his medicals really said. I thought there might be warnings like MPJ that he might not play again. I personally think it is risky for team like us to take him, but I think Denver has been really smart. If any of these guys pan out or especially if they hit big it could easily lead to a chip. If they hadn't panned out, that is just normal for late 1st round picks/2nd rounders. Easy to say, "Sit out your first year to get better" when you already have a deep team.

The worst thing I saw anyone say about Bol on here was that his center of gravity was too high to be an effective post defender, especially against the big Centers out there. If he is a 3, maybe that is no issue at all, or a very small one. The other thing people were worried about was him saying he was a wing or that he was too full of himself. Maybe he was right?

With what Z went through and how we passed on Embiid, I would have said the cavs would never take someone like Bol Bol, but they did take flyers on Colson and now Wade.

He hasn't shown enough, and we have no idea if his body is going to last; but, I was on the bandwagon and had him as one of the top prospects.

Bol Bol had huge red flags about his attitude and effort IIRC. HE will be one of those that falling to the second round is the reason he got his act together and made a success of himself

Bol Bol is a nice prospect, but there's a reason he fell. I think people are getting ahead of themselves, he's a C that can't score in the low block.

Wiseman is a better prospect than Bol tbh & he doesn't have the injury concerns.

It turned out to be not as bad, considering we ended up drafting Porter Jr. in the same draft. I think the Cavs can make up for it by trading him before his value plummets. I do like his potential & he would've been a top 10 pick regardless. I just like Sexton more, but Garland is too good to come off the bench for us imo.

I don't understand that. If he so good that he can't come off the bench, then won't his value go up?

I've never understood either "get rid of player x before his value goes down" or "player x's value can only go up so we should keep him and trade him later." Neither makes sense to me. Every single team scouts every player for whom they trade, and they factor in things like the situation, injuries, playing time, etc., in considering whether the player is likely to get better or worse. In other words, how that player projects moving forward in a different situation -- better or worse -- is something that is built into the price paid in trade.

What in the world has Garland done to prove he's too good to come off the bench? He was literally the worst player in the NBA last year and was less valuable than a replacement (read: G-League) player.
I like Garland's potential more than anything. He may have struggled in his rookie year, but he projects as a starter in this league based on his upside.

I don't see any reason to keep Garland when we already have Sexton. Why not trade him now for a player that fits? We don't have bigs that fit our timeline.

I have zero issue with trading him if we think it's a reasonable offer. My point was directed at the specific logic of needing to trade him now "before his value plummets.". Other teams already factor into the price they are willing to pay how he reasonably projects moving forward, regardless of when we trade him.

I think we have reached sort of the point of no return here though........if we are talking receiving a reasonable offer for Garland. We needed him to perform really well in year 1........and not just be meh.

The only trade route, to me, is gambling on Garland reaching his ceiling (whatever that may be) and selling high on Sexton. If we are unwilling to do that (which I would imagine we are), then I think we are resigned to improving the front court and seeing how much the tandem may improve with another year.

Yes, if you want anything back you you have to trade Sexton instead. Maybe, you have ball or Edwards and they look good enough by the trade deadlines that you can part with Sexton. Just like Edwards though, I am very confident Sexton hits his ceiling with the way he has already improved.
