2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hope everyone took a good look at James Wiseman. Won’t be seeing him play anymore games this year.

Damn that is so crazy. Feel for the guy.

I already thought his attitude and effort issues are red flags (ala Ayton) but now his evaluation gets that much more difficult. Does he go play somehwere overseas?

He played yesterday...

Edit: was that before or after the announcement?

After. A small time Memphis judge put a restraining order for Wiseman against the NCAA. But it's likely a stop gap. He's gonna have to stop playing if it's not resolved because I doubt Memphis wants to risk forfeiting the season.

Wiseman looks amazing.. can the basketball gods please deliver him to us ffs

should come down to Australia and dominate, most NBL centers are like 6'9 at most

Soooo..... Ant Edwards anyone?

For sure..
Highest ceiling. Weisman with a high floor who is also a need.
I just put more value on wings such as Edwards in today's game. That unless Wiseman expands his game. It's just that such good all around wings are more rare than athletic bigs. Heck; nowadays you get Bruno Fernando, Mitchell Robinson; Gafford, Robert William's in late 1st to 2nd rounds... and I do acknowledge that Wiseman is better with a higher ceiling than all of them.

I agree, Wiseman would be more appealing to me if there was any indication of what his game can be outside of just being an absurdly good athlete. Like, is is feasible to expect him to be an effective 3 point shooter, can he score outside of the post, does he project as a multipositional defender.... The frustrating thing is that maybe he actually does, but if he's not going to be playing this year then who the fuck knows? Going to the NBL may be a good idea but it doesn't provide a lot of context for how he will do against NBA size players.

Yeah, it sucks. College will always be the best barometer for analyzing prospects at this stage and level.

Wiseman defensively reminds me of Whiteside..what he was. Dominant interior presence, but not elite on the perimeter, laterally. I have very little data right now, but that's only from first glance.

Edward's is a huge SG. Like Bigger, stronger, better shooter and passer Donovan Mitchell mixed with PG13. His shot looks pure and soft. He will bully NBA shooting guards. His build and total package is just super appealing. He is almost a Zion in a sg package. Lol

Can he guard PGs though?

I certainly think he has the tools to guard any PG in the league, no question. Projecting defensive ability is such a headache in general, though. Effort, physical ability and innate talent is all fine and dandy, but if you end up on a team that doesn't prioritize it, you're just as likely to not meaningfully improve, and that's not even getting into the quality of the coaching. In general I would say that there is no period of time more important for a players defensive development than the first 2-3 seasons in the league. If those years are spent on a team with poor defensive identity and prioritization it almost doesn't matter how good his fundamentals, tools and talent is.

sweet shooting wing with a hiccup quick jumper AND can use his left hand! sign me up

Anthony Edwards is also a straight up competitor, playing with lots of effort and on the edge. Really like him as a prospect, top tier potential.

I don't know, I haven't seen Wiseman a ton but everything I read about him highlights his suspect effort level. I don't want a finesse non working big man, no matter how nice his toolkit seems. Now we won't even know how much of that is true unless he starts playing somewhere.

I'd rather we go for someone like Isaiah Stewart who is a 10/10 effort guy and seems to have multi positional defensive potential. I will be following him closely because he I think he's the ideal center in today's game except for not having a 3pt shot (yet).

I'm glad you guys are hopping on the Edwards train with me. No, he's not 6'8" but he's got plenty enough size and strength (eventually) to play and defend the wing position. The kid is put together something ridiculous. And as previously stated he has a motor and wants to win.

One of my best friends is an assistant at Western Carolina (who he opened up against). I texted him after the game and said "Edwards worth the hype?"... He texted back "What do you think?" Haha.

Also agree on Isaiah Stewart. I like that kid. Think he has a unique game and if we're in the 3-6 range I could definitely justify taking him.

For those who haven't seen Stewart this is his opening game against a ranked Baylor squad.

Advanced post game for his age, well put together. Frame to put on some really solid muscle.

If I had to compare him to someone in the NBA I'd say I see a little Montrezl Harrell in high (higher ceiling), but definitely needs to work on his ability to square up to the basket and attack off the dribble.
