2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
LSU wasn't great with Simmons....and that 15/16 LSU class was insane from a ranking perspective.

They were 19-14 and lost to the College of Charleston. :chuckle:

Indiana was horrendous when Oladipo was a frosh.....and while he didn't have the same role, he was playing nearly 20 minutes a game.

Georgia Tech wasn't good with Bosh.

I'm sure there are other examples, I just remembered those off the top of my head.

Those teams were bad, but to give a completely arbitrary threshold, Georgia's currently outside of the top-100 on kenpom. That's worse than any of those other teams, and almost unbelievably bad considering how ostensibly elite Edwards is.

It would be interesting to see on/off splits, to see if Georgia is at least decent with Edwards on the court and just gets obliterated with him on the bench, or if they're extremely bad even when he's on the court.

Part of what Tjarks was alluding to was basically bad coaching.

Crean was having him just dominate the ball and that's not necessarily a recipe for success, just with his play style. He needs to be someone who is a combo guard not a PG and they were just having him handle the ball way too much.

Since they have slid Edwards to the 2, they have been a significantly better team and Edwards has looked like a better player too. Edwards also has quality numbers in transition, something that will be easier at the next level.

A lot of this can simply be glass half full but I was going to at least stump for him a bit as he has seen in uptick in his profile. It's impossible to know if he'll sustain it but I think he's finally in a better spot position wise and it seems to be showing in improved production.

The uptick in counting stats is there, but I'm not sure they've been a "significantly better team." 10-4 before, 2-8 after sliding Edwards to the 2. Yeah, tougher schedule in that last 10, but at best it's too soon to say whether they're a better team with him at SG.

I know these are considered the obvious guys but I spent about an hour watching LaMelo, Okoro, and Toppin last night.

On LaMelo, could he play PG on offense and be cohesive with Sexton? And then on defense, Sexton guarding the PG and LaMelo/KPJ handling the wings?

With Okoro, I’m scared about his height. It says 6’6” but he looks shorter to me. What are his most recent official measurements at neutral camps that won’t help him out with a “boost”?

With Toppin, wow, dude just explodes on his dunks and rebounds with amazingly quick upper body/arm/hand speed. What is the fear on him translating to the NBA? Is he seen only as a PF or is there some belief he can be a SF on both ends of the court? Is their stuff about the way he dominates in a lesser league that will be shut down against NBA athletes every night?

Really saw some good stuff in all three of these guys.

-Do think LaMelo would be a good fit with Sexton as you describe.

-TheStepien has Okoro at 6'5.5" with a 6'8" wingspan. That is indeed a bit small...they have LaMelo for comparison at 6'6.5" with a 6'10.5" wingspan. May limit his upside defensively.

-Toppin's big issue is his age and the level of competition. If all players stayed in college until age 21/22, there would be a lot of guys outshining him.

I like Toppin more and more with every game I watch, offensively I see a potential all-star as a combo 3/4, I think everything that he does well will translate to the NBA. Defense is certainly a concern, not sure he has the lateral quickness to guard 3's or the strength to guard 4's, but he seems to have a solid b-ball IQ, so hopefully he can develop on that end.

My concerns with Ball are probably irrational, but the diva potential worries me, so I've mentally crossed him off my list.

Okoro is a stud, but I want a potential all-star with this pick and in today's NBA, a wing has to be a plus outside shooter to be an all-star, I have him in the late lottery category, along with Paul Reed, I'd look at both if we end up trading down.

If your concerns with Ball have anything to do with his .38/.25/.72 shooting splits, then I'd say they're pretty rational :chuckle:

TBH, because of the Ball family history, I haven't looked at his stats or watched any games/highlights, just not interested.

I don't feel as comfortable commenting on the international guys, but very intrigued with the Avdija film I've watched. Is he a Casspi/Cedi type or a higher ceiling?

Ball's actually pretty similar to his brother in a lot of ways, IMO. Nice all-around game, but such an inefficient scorer when he tries to do it himself that his upside is kinda limited.

I think Avdija arguably has a higher ceiling because he's a better, more versatile athlete than either of those guys. As with Ball, though, I think his ability to get his own shot and/or collapse the defense at the NBA level is a point of uncertainty. Both may "only" end up as very good roleplayers.

@I'mWithDan not cavs related but interested what your data says for Cole Anthony as a prospect overall

@I'mWithDan not cavs related but interested what your data says for Cole Anthony as a prospect overall

I've mentioned before I was waiting closer to seasons end to pull data on everyone.....but I have 30 select prospects right now.

Anthony ranks:

29/30 in PDIFF, which is comparing them to a typical prospect at their position. He's ahead of only McDaniels, who has been awful.....and they're both in the Reddish zone.

He's 30/30 in adjusted impact, which is game impact less scoring.

He's 24/30 in impact rating, which is just a raw box score calculation.

He's 27/30 in net impact rating, which is a calculation that considers size, age, and the gap between his offensive and non offensive contributions.

So his composite across all of these is 27.5, which is just horrendous for a potential lottery pick.

For comparison sake of another PG, Haliburton is:

2/30 in PDIFF
1/30 in adjusted impact (by a very large margin)
13/30 in impact rating
2/30 in net impact rating

Composite across all of these is 4.5, which is stellar. He's #1 in PDIFF and NET when you throw out Wiseman's small sample, which I will eventually do.

I'll share the large data dump at seasons' end, with how guys rank in these metrics, as well as composite scores.

Also, WTF.......this sucks:

Tyrese Haliburton's incredible season with the Iowa State Cyclones has been cut short after he suffered a left-wrist fracture that will sideline him for the remainder of the year.

I don't think I saw anyone post this......bummer.

Really unfortunate given how he was in the very small group of guys who were actually profiling as legit top 5 picks.

This draft is one or two injuries away from being a total cluster fuck. :chuckle:

Maybe was just shut down..
It happens so much. His stock is really high anyways, and perhaps t hey are heading into a tough schedule. His team sucks, so...
