2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Melo was the best player on his team
Melo was also on a 5-23 team while Hampton's was over .500

They were asked to do different things based on the talent around them

What do you like about Hampton? As far as I can tell he is an ok ball handler and pretty good finisher. His athleticism looks like Maybe one notch above RJ Barrett. I see a lot of Exum in his drives. Ok athleticsim, not a lot of vertical pop, and decent finishing.

If I wanted a player like that, I think I would take Isaac Okoro with more athleticism, better passing, and a much better finishing package around the rim/better able to take contact. A lot of the same aspects, but Okoro is actually elite at finishing, has passing upside, and is might be an elite defender that can guard bigs on switches.

Melo is a top 5 prospect, Hampton is not that’s why they had different roles. Melo would most likely have been a starting on every NBL team other than Sydney Kings

Melo very well could have started on just about every team, but I guarantee his role would have been far smaller. No good team was going to let him play the way the Hawks did, he simply wasn't good enough.

I was just saying that Melo being the best player on the Hawks doesn't mean much. Hampton would have been the second-best player on that team behind Melo.

Not sure about that, Boone has been a top center in the league for 3-4 years they also had Aaron Brooks before his injury

If Aaron Brooks counts, then Melo wasn’t the best player on his team.

Yes he was, you’re really underrating him. I went into the season expecting to not like him because I don’t particularly rate Lonzo and can’t stand the dad but he was super impressive by far the best NBA prospect I have seen play in the league. Hampton was anything but, he was barely better than Terrance Ferguson

I agree that Melo is probably the best NBA prospect to ever come through the NBL. However, the list of prospects to come through the NBL isn't exactly long or distinguished.

I'm not even trying to knock Melo though. I'm not sure why you think I am.

I'm on the Edwards hype train lately. Athletic 2 that can play defense.

Quarantine has left me with too much time on my hands, thus getting back into things..

I've started with the top few prospects.. I'd be happy to post them as I go and any feedback on these is appreciated...

James Wiseman

Anthony Edwards

LaMelo Ball

TL;DR

To me, Wiseman is the best overall player in this draft (so far have done deep dives on Edwards, Hayes, Ball and Wiseman) and I feel comfortable saying that, even to the extent of him being in his own tier..

Edwards and Ball don't particularly pair well with Sexton, Garland, Porter Jr., as both players need the ball and right now are not good defensive players.. If you choose either Edwards or Ball, you're likely choosing them to replace 1-2 of the aforementioned players... And no, I don't think an Edwards-KPJ-PG lineup would work...

I'll be doing a deep dive on Hayes next and with him being most effective operating the P&R, being an average perimeter shooter (right now) and his defense not being where I thought it might be, I also don't think a pairing of Sexton/Garland + Hayes would be optimal... Certainly it would be better than the current setup but not sure how much you're accomplishing if you're replacing one of Garland/Sexton with Hayes.. If the Cavs didn't have Garland on the roster, Hayes would be a much better fit next to Sexton than Garland profiles..

Got into Hayes and Avdija most recently...

Avdija by himself is a good prospect but in the scheme of the Cavs roster construction the two things the Cavs need most from their wings (shooting and defense) are not his strengths... He's a really good facilitator and would operate best as a point forward.. I can see why Altman likes him but unless the Cavs plan to move on from the current backcourt pairing, it's just not a fit...

However, even if you plug in Porter Jr., to the starting lineup, I still don't think Avdija provides enough shooting, defense or off-the-ball traits to be a current fit..

If you're looking how he would fit best with this roster, I would say off the bench with Sexton...
