2020 NBA Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I didn't take into account the Clarkson experience. I just think putting a pg next to Sexton is not good roster construction.

Why, though? Plenty of athletic scoring guards share the backcourt with a PG, and I've never heard someone argue that that's "not good roster construction." Harden shared the backcourt with one of the most ball-dominant PGs in the league this year and still averaged 34ppg.

I wish we had more players that sucked as bad as Kevin Love
Meh. Love, the player, is not terrible. His age combined with his injury history is what concerns me. Also, in the modern NBA, he's more of a stretch 5. He can't defend 4's let alone taller 5's. Cavs somehow have to move on from him.

I’m fine with letting him ride out his career here. He’s not holding us back from anything and his jersey will be in the rafters someday.

Sexton is more than just an athletic scoring guard. He has the skills to be a full time pg. He's what I want in a point guard role.

Tall pg's in recent times have a high failure rate. Too many Tony Wroten's in the draft. I think the reason for this is because at that height they struggle doing the pg duties. Very few oversized pg's succeed in this league.

Hard disagree. I think Sexton needs to be as far away from the PG role as possible.

I’d be happy to bet on him being a good secondary creator, but there’s a reason his best lineups included Delly.

I'm not content with Kevin Love as our starting PF. This team is going through a re-build, we have many young faces. Love doesn't fit our timeline. He can't play any position these days, too slow for the 4, too small for the 5. The only reason he's here is because of that ridiculous contract.

I understand why people like him. He helped us win a championship. But he's getting up there in age & he's too fragile. Plus, he's more of a center the way he plays.

That would be a dream come true if it happens...we'd be looking at Lillard 2.0, possibly even better. I'm just not feeling optimistic about it personally.

As for the failure rates of oversized PGs, it's hard to say. As my signature says, no option is truly safe in the big picture.

Off topic, but the Cavs really need to follow the Spurs model when it comes to building a team through the draft. Tank for a year, get the best talent available, & fill out the rest of the roster through the draft as well.

The OKC model sucks. 3 years is way too much of a sacrifice, & completely unnecessary.

The reason it took the Spurs a little longer to fill out the roster back then in the early 2000's is that they didn't have assets to speed up their rebuild. We have the assets to do so. This is the perfect draft to adress our needs.

Our backcourt of Sexton & Porter Jr. has insane potential & the coaching staff is top notch. The rest of the roster needs work.

I wouldn't hate it if we draft Okongwu or Wiseman, but who knows when we'll get another opportunity to add a 6'5"+ PG.

There are four in this draft alone: Ball, Haliburton, Hayes, and Bolmaro. I don't think it's quite as rare as you claim these days.

It's certainly not rare in this draft, which is partly why I'm making this point. Three elite 6'5"+ PG prospects. Last year there were none, or maybe 1 if you want to argue for Barrett or Culver as a potential PG prospect. Next year there's Cade, who appears to be the early favorite to go #1 overall. If we want to draft a PG of the future who could actually be a good fit next to Sexton, this may be our one and only opportunity.

Drafting another point guard that high when we have so many holes in our roster would be completely idiotic.

What this team needs in terms of guards is a combo guard that we can bring off the bench to score buckets. There are plenty of those slated to go in the 2nd round of the draft, like Ty-Shon Alexander out of Creighton.

If you don't think Sexton is a PG (and I don't), then PG is one of those many holes. In fact, I'd argue it's the biggest one.

At SG/SF, we have Sexton, KPJ, Cedi, and Windler. At PF/C, we have Love, Nance, and Drummond. At PG, we have Garland who's a mystery at best and Delly who's on his last legs. It's by far our weakest position.

PG is our strongest position by far. Sexton is our best young player. I do consider him a PG. We have Love, but he's regressing. Drummond is an expiring deal & shouldn't be in our future plans. His post game is non-existent, unacceptable at this stage in his career. I'd rather deal Drummond for bad contracts & future firsts.
